No. Billboard 200 YEC ranks the albums based on SPS units only. The point system is used for decade-end and all-time lists.

 

 

If 25 was released in the last week of the Billboard tracking period this year, 25 would be the #1 YEC album with its ~3.3m first week sales alone.

And why is this surprising? TU, N was released 6 months+ before Lover + Taylor is an album seller in the US. :michael:

Not the insecure stanbase shading Thank U, Next's SECOND year end chart position in the US when it was the #2 album in the 2019 YEC. It's also outstreaming many pop girls albums released months or a year after it. :toofunny2:

So is it fair to assume that SPS units in 2020 are almost on par with late 00’s pure album sales? This could easily be a 2009/2010 YEC.

I would say so. In fact, I think overall units are better than overall pure sales were in 2010? I’m not entirely sure about that but I feel like someone posted receipts before that prove that’s the case.
 

The trade off I guess is that we don’t have any albums that do massive units in just one calendar year anymore (5M+) but we have a pretty healthy number per album as we go down the list. 

Cardi being top 80 with a 2 year old album and Rih being 150 with a nearly 5 year old album. Insane. :jonny5:
