White artists being recognized as "global" without argument, but black and POC artists' international popularity is questioned/denied despite irrefutable facts.

This is so stupid. There’s both global and local white and black artists.

i feel like this policy would work better if it was strictly defined what was considered offensive (racism, homophobia, islamophobia, fatphobia etc obviously)

but its too general now and its gonna be abused by certain mods to death chile :skull:

If you need someone to strictly define what is racist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic then you have your own issues that need to be worked out.

The revised ZTP clearly states that this is focused on any form of bigotry or discrimination.

Quote

The Zero Tolerance Policy (ZTP) covers all forms of explicit hateful and discriminatory speech that make other users feel unsafe and uncomfortable. This includes but is not limited to racist, homophobic, or transphobic posts, as well as discrimination or offensive comments based on sexuality, gender or an individual's choice to be defined as something else altogether.

Lol free speech will be no more soon. There’s a difference between hate speech and a joke which the line can sometimes be very fine. But whatever I don’t own the forum sucks for the racists for sure tho

If you want to be free to make racist jokes at the expense of black people or transphobic jokes at the expense of trans people, I’m sure there are (unfortunately) other outlets on the Internet for you to participate in such back-and-forths. ATRL will not be one of them.

Free speech only protects you against the government. :isudumblmao:

The Internet is a private entity, you HAVE ZERO freedom of speech on it since all of it is owned by private entities in some shape or form.

If you can't see the issue about joking about racism, etc, then that's on you, not the forum. :lmao:

It’d be great to have the “warned sign,” it’d “calm” some and sounds like it’d save the staff from a lot of work.

This! I think it would be great to have a "warned" sign to posts that have been warned for any kind of infraction tbh. Not in like...a scarlet letter way, but for users to better comprehend and understand what is being considered "inappropriate."

i pretty much have no issue in telling whats racist, xenophobic, transphobic is

the issue is that there will be a lot of loop holes and certain modes will go overboard with it

unless its a discussion on the board with other mods as well, which is better than nothing i guess  :coffee::giraffe:

never been warned for anything in those lines

minus one time when a mod didnt understand what i wrote (i mean what i posted was flamebait dont get me wrong, but a mod wrote a note and he thought i was being racist)

thats my main issue, but as long as its discussed with other mods then its ok.

It would be nice if ageist and weightshaming comments applied to this too. There are a lot of size zeroes on here who disgustingly insult the bodies of people with thicc bodies every chance they get.

But good :clap3:

But then you they'd have to warn your post for "size zeroes" :skull:

I support this tho.

But that was a fact, not an insult. I didn't call them disgusting or a whale, etc :lakitu:

what about criticizing religion in general? obviously not calling them terrorists etc. like talking about the homophobia these countries have and how stupid religion is?:psyduck:

i mean religion is a choice anyways, am i right? unless you're forced to be a certain religion in some countries.........but its mostly a choice

I missed this question for some reason. Sorry for the delayed response. But, sincere conversations/discussions surrounding religion and how it impacts regimes around the globe are certainly permissible. For instance, if you want to criticize the application of Sodomy laws in the context of the United States ruling by Christian doctrine, that’s perfectly permissible. However, if you want to say all Muslims living in a Middle Eastern country are evil and should be bombed, that’s obviously not excusable.

I know it might come off as if I’m coming up with ridiculous examples for what isn’t allowed, that’s because we run into some crazy examples when filing through reports. As long as you’re not aiming to harm or oppress a group of people, I think you’ll be fine. On topics that could be deemed as sensitive, as long as you’re respectful, the ZTP shouldn’t be a problem or any point of valid concern from you all.

This change to the ZTP is largely for cases of people saying something that they shouldn’t, but arguably wasn’t bad enough to warrant a permanent ban. In those cases, we often just issued a WP and moved on, but it made the ZTP seem ineffectual. Now, in those cases, those people would be faced with a 3-month ban and will be subject to staggered (and warranted) consequences.

If you find a crackdown on prejudicial and hateful rhetoric and language to be attacking your free speech rights, you might want to look at what you’re saying boo boo, cause the rules aren’t the problem here.

the internet itself is a public good just like our interstate highway system

A public good filled with almost entirely private entities. You won't find a single support of free speech applying on the Internet unless the government is censoring the media or websites like China is doing.

But specifically applying strict terms to speech on sites like this, that's a different issue. You don't have rights on sites like these unless it's stated in the TOS or site rules.

The fact that you took umbrage with my statement is probably why this policy had to be implemented in the first place.
