For 12 hours of availability only?

Yeah. It's not like it would have 2x the streams if it had debuted 12 hours earlier. It's really bad tho, but def underwhelming

Put in work work work!

I dont really like the song so much and is not like im a Bey/Em big fan but its too early to judge

Eminem will have huge streaming, and he is  starting to promote next week

Still im not sure if it will work for this song tho, i dont see it doing very good in radio unless it gets a radio edit.

Its true that we all probably expected a Eminem ft Beyonce song to have a bigger lead, but its definetly too early to call it a flop

RFI will be #6 soon :duca:

His fanbase is mostly white men, and white males tend to fall under that "Trump supporter" bracket (and I acknowledge this as a white person who absolutely DESPISES Trump and wants him gone). Some will stick with him despite his views, but as we've seen with Katy Perry over the past year, taking any kind of political stance and mixing it with your music is toxic with regards to the vast majority of Americans who want nothing more than to live in an undisturbed echo chamber.

There's a reason that artists who were obvious Clinton supporters, like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, and Trump supporters (that Joy Villa chick at the Grammys earlier this year) are finding it difficult to sell their music and get radio airplay in this day and age. Then you have artists who keep politics completely separate from their music, like Taylor Swift, and they're selling massively.

That’s not entirely true. Kendrick mentioned Trump negativity on multiple songs and he has the (soon to be second) best selling album of the year.

He doesn't rely on a largely white following though, like Katy, Gaga, and Eminem do.

Because an additional 700k people bought the albums? So they have the songs already? And don't really need to buy the individual tracks?

I mean, it will probably rise some tomorrow, but I firmly expect it to fall after that.

I vehemently disagree with this and believe that what you're illustrating is correlation, not causation.

Kendrick Lamar is one of the most openly political artists of our time. He has advanced leftist political positions not just through his music but through prominent awards show performances that have been circulated through right-wing media many times. Yet he has the #1 album in the country year-to-date, and it is the biggest album of his career.

To address what you said about radio: airplay has actually been the strongest metric for pop girls in 2017. Hit pop songs that had underwhelming runs on streaming (such as Chained To The Rhythm, Malibu, Now Or Never, and What About Us) were bolstered by pop radio, which remains quite friendly to pop artists. Pop girls are struggling on streaming because of the changing climate, and because streaming is the most influential Hot 100 component this obviously hurts their chart performance.

I believe there are very few people who will go so far as to boycott an artist's music because of their political opinions. The Witness era didn't flop because Katy Perry is a liberal, and the DAMN. era didn't succeed because Kendrick Lamar is a liberal.

Are you in US?

Would have thought an Eminem and beyonce song would have a much bigger first day than this.

songs that haven't yet been performed and are on album only purchase.

I don't think it's weird to have "red" songs that are top 10. I think it's weirder that a song that was released yesterday is already having red updates when it features 2 big superstars.

I'm sure Taylor's numbers will be fine.

Eminem asked his fans to leave him if they support trump. I guess he really pissed off some of his hardcore fans. But anyway the song is not good.

Like i said to the other poster, Kendrick doesn't rely on a mostly white fanbase. Quite the opposite in fact. His fanbase reviles Trump and would be energized by an anti-Trump message, not repelled. He doesn't need the white electorate for him to succeed. Miley, Katy, Lady Gaga, and Eminem do.

Beyonce is another example you could have used, since Lemonade was massively successful last year in spite of her divisive Super Bowl performance, but white America doesn't use her either. And so, she doesn't need them much like Kendrick doesn't.

Besides that, it's not as though those songs you listed were even that big on pop radio - barely peaking top ten at most before getting dropped when callouts for them came out. They crumbled pretty quickly, especially "Chained To The Rhythm." They weren't big sellers anyway. Pop is also pretty much a dead genre anyway, with only songs such as "Sorry Not Sorry" and "Look" doing really anything on the charts.

So anyway, Katy didn't flop because she's a liberal. She flopped because she repelled much of her existing fanbase by expressing views that didn't align with their own. She relied heavily on (gay) white men, and the music wasn't substantive enough to stand on its own in spite of their loss of support. And apparently, that's what we're seeing with Eminem's current song. I haven't heard it yet myself, but it seems to be garnering a negative reaction. So it'll probably fizzle out much like "Chained To The Rhythm" did.

Brought nothing new to the table, an all around bland track. And most people who stan for either artist don't like the song which isn't good. A certified buzz single. Stay tuned for the real lead.

Y'all really think fans don't care about music, huh? Just as people on here had luke warm reactions, it can be the same for the rest of their audience. Fans can listen to a song without buying it or streaming it on repeat... especially em and Bey's audience are mostly in their 20s/30s

Every artist performs differently depending on the song. This ballad which does sound more like an album cut (5mins, no grand production, no addictive/impressive flow) is likely just not something which is gonna sell a **** ton out of the gate. Its not something Beyonce or Eminem fans would rush to buy. Lets see if its an organic hit and serves longevity but its pretty obvious it wasn't picked as lead based on its potential to smash.

Rihanna is the perfect example because she has songs that perform like American Oxygen/Sledghanmer...  and then she has songs which perform like Work/TIWICF. Not surprisingly her big comeback 45S didnt perform as well as late singles like Work. Its all about the song.
