Em just gonna prove people wrong again. IMO. It could easily underperform. I just think it’s too soon to make that conclusion. 

 

I do do wonder if a second song from the album will be out by his SNL performance since artists usually perform twice.

I'm sure neither of them expected this to blow up. Eminem knows what a hit sounds like and I'm sure he has a few on his album. He just chose to lead with this because of the message, I think.

I was taking about the iTunes lead, it’s so small for the star power on the song. Taylor had a bigger lead with an album track. Obviously a lead single is gonna do better

Well, even if that's true, it seems like the streaming demographic (which skews liberal) is not supporting the song either. A #19 debut on Spotify is very bad.

His fanbase is mostly white men, and white males tend to fall under that "Trump supporter" bracket (and I acknowledge this as a white person who absolutely DESPISES Trump and wants him gone). Some will stick with him despite his views, but as we've seen with Katy Perry over the past year, taking any kind of political stance and mixing it with your music is toxic with regards to the vast majority of Americans who want nothing more than to live in an undisturbed echo chamber.

 

There's a reason that artists who were obvious Clinton supporters, like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, and Trump supporters (that Joy Villa chick at the Grammys earlier this year) are finding it difficult to sell their music and get radio airplay in this day and age. Then you have artists who keep politics completely separate from their music, like Taylor Swift, and they're selling massively.
