You do realize Taylor was always an album artist right? She didn't get her first top 10 till her second era or her first number 1 till her 4th album. And didn't have an era with multiple hit singles till 1989. She has never had a huge song that dominated the top of the charts till 1989. She cares about that first week sales of her albums.

Red had Never Getting Back Together and I Knew You Were Trouble though

WANEGBT was like a mirror image of LWYMMD to be honest.

Nahhh, WANEGBT had way more longevity and is still remembered and one of her biggest hits, LWYMMD has nothing tbh.

Not really. It also stalled and failed to hit #1 on any major radio format. I bet LWYMMD ends up spending just as long in the Top 10 as WANEGBT. Their iTunes performance wasn't too different.

The response from listeners was also similar; two of her less well-received hits at pop radio, both found obnoxious.

Nah, LWYMMD won’t even reach top 5 on radio. Not hitting number one doesn’t mean it’s a flop, far from that. It’s one of her most remembered hits, sold really well and has good Youtube views. Look kind of has nothing....

Nah, if WANEGBT did kinda good on raido, was because Country radio was also playing it

Digitally, In the same days that LWYMMD has, WANEGBT was #3 on itunes, and 10 days later, #6. It is just that sales were WAY bigger in 2012

I agree that where the song is being more frontloaded is streaming, it is still doing great in youtube, but its not in spotify, but it still has more streams on youtube in 1 month than WANEGBT did in 5 years, and has also more spotify streams, the gap will keep getting bigger (as it should since streaming was wa weaker in 2012)

I dont see that much difference tbh.

Look will likely have billions of streams by the end of the era. It's still averaging way more streams per day than Shake It Off was at its peak popularity on YouTube.

On radio, I was too lazy to find an exact day comparison, but the performance is startlingly similar...

Day 26: (9) TAYLOR SWIFT - We Are Never Ever Getting…: 106.162 (+ 0.685)

Day 32: (8) TAYLOR SWIFT - Look What You Made Me Do: 114.881 (+0.212)

As far as digital sales go, LWYMMD and WANEGBT will probably both be #1 in their 5th week.

That... still doesn’t make any sense. It being played on country radio doesn’t make it any less of a hit, it did well on radio. And quite funny for you to say it has it sales are normal considering it was released in 2012 (which is not true, it sales fared up very well compared to other hits from that same period), yet compare it’s streaming numbers to those of Look when you know damn well streaming exploded in the last three years, so that argument makes zero sense. You saying Look surpassed it in streams is supposed to be surprising? Oh wow, a hit in 2017 outstreamed one from 2012.

No matter what (and I don’t even stan Taylor), WANEGBT is a certified big hit, still remembered and way bigger and with better longevity thnn look.

I went from liking 1 Taylor song pre 1989 and hammered how much better she would be if she went full pop, worked with Max Martin, and stop masquerading as country

She did exactly that with 1989 and it was really good but this era has been underwhelming. Same with Miley's new era

Why are you talking about longevity? It's only been 5 weeks since LWYMMD was released, you can't compare its longevity to WANEGBT because you don't know how it will perform in the future compared to WANEGBT.

The performances of both LWYMMD and WANEGBT up to this point in their runs charts-wise are very similar, that's all people were pointing out.

Wait how is it bigger than LWYMMD tho? So far LWYMMD is bigger, but that's because LWYMMD is really frontloaded.

LWYMMD did 1100 points first week.

WANEGBT did less than 1000 first week for sure

Your post doesnt make sense

I compared itunes positions, not itunes sales, WANEGBT sold great, 4M, but like many other songs released in 2012, LWYMMD digital sales are also big when compared to other hits in 2017

And I was the first one to say that you cant compare the streams, as you cant compare the sales, I said that it already passed it in streams and it will keep doing more streams as it is expected because we are in 2017

Sales don’t matter though now. And overall they’re okay. What matters is streaming, and she’s not doing well there...

She is not having good longevity, butshe already had 715M streams only between youtube and spotify in one month

And that is not good, that is GREAT, even if it doesnt have longevity, those are already  not bad numbers at all.

Not to mention she is not doing bad at all in youtube, at least so far

And digital sales are not irrelevant, thta is like saying that youtube numbers of 2012 hits are irrelevant

They are less important but still relevant

Why is everyone so concerned with trying to make it sound like LWYMMD flopped? It was a huge hit. Frontloaded? Sure. But no other girl besides Cardi even had a single week at #1 this year and Taylor got three. Y'all really do the most  nobody expected her to repeat SIO's longevity. You can't hold every artist to the standard of their biggest hit. A "bruno mars is over because 24k Magic isn't doing as well as Uptown Funk" tea...

Anyway, yaaaas @ Havana being top 10 :alexz:rise bish rise

Macklemore's Same Love being #1 in Australia and the gap is getting bigger. Wtf is happening there :dies:

Same-sex marriage vote/survey, it's a huge political issue in Australia currently. I'm not really following it that closely but I'm assuming that's why Same Love is #1 there.

The gap :dies:

And the fact it is an old song :ahh:

The discussion about Look is under performed is so tiring.

I mean i would love my other faves achieve those 3 weeks at No.1. And you guys act like its already out of the top 10 like Hold it against me or something. The song is still top 3 on Billboard for god sake and probably will hang in the top 5 for the rest of October.

I dont know why non-Swifties set the standard for her so high and then try to spin the flop narrative on her.

Indeed, such a puzzling narrative

I also find it interesting that this whole discussion wasn't deleted for being off-topic, when another conversation in this thread was completely deleted by the mods not too long ago
