Kind of surprised you don't know who Harry Styles is

First, let's pretend That's What I Like is going to sell 100K this week.

If Sign of the Times were at #1 and That's What I Like were at #2 with 90% popularity, that means that at that point in time, Sign of The Times would be on track to sell 1.0 / 0.9 * (100,000) = about 110,000 copies. A 10% drop would result in Sign of the Times being projected to sell the same as That's What I Like, or 100,000 copies. This means that the 10% drop would represent a ~10K difference in sales over the course of a week.

Now let's take the current situation. When That's What I Like was at 10% popularity, that means Sign of the Times was projected to sell 1.0/0.10 = 10x as much this week, or 1,000,000 copies. Now, consider the 3% gain. Sign of the Times would now only be projected to sell 1.0/0.13 = 7.69x as much as That's What I like, or 769,000 copies, which is a 231K difference in sales over the course of a week.

Drops count for much, much more when a song has a huge lead. This is because percentages are relative measures.

1% of 100K is 10K.

1% of 1M is 100K.

The fact that Camila fans thought it would go Top 10 and it probably won't even go Top 150 :toofunny3:

I am talking about the "record" that people are talking about on twitter and facebook and even threads on ATRL. Dont act innocent honey.

If the record is true or not I dont know, but there are a lot of people claiming it is.

It is not true bby girl. A quick search on Kworb's archives will tell you that. Don't believe everything you read online, check the facts first :spin:

I listen to Hard Rock, Country, and Alternative music, and I doubt 1D did any such songs. I would rather use my charge on this site, because I will find other music information while I await an answer. Also, I answer quite a few questions from others that have inquiries about a song's success (or lack thereof). So, I probably play the role of helping other people on this website more than asking questions of my own..

that is correct, but i believe peter's point is that the song is stable in that "range", so a drop from 10x to 7.69x is not really a big deal.

that being said, nobody would expect him to do 10x for even 2 days, let along 1 entire week:gaycat2:

"I Don't Wanna Live Forever" peaked with around an 80%~ lead; over songs like 24K Magic which was projected for 71K that week and ended up doing 188K.

So with a 90%~ peak lead over other songs projected to sell 70K~ this week, I can see it doing 200-250K.

The lead is still impressive but the song debuted #19 on Spotify. #1 isn't happening. :'(

This makes no sense. It's losing 1% each update. There's no reason to upscale the losses of the #1 song just because the #2 song is quite a bit behind it. If Song A has 200M AI and Song B has 50M AI, and both lose 2M AI, no matter which way you look at it both lost 2M. It's equally as bad for both songs. The same applies to these iTunes updates, Harry losing 1% is equal to Bruno losing 1%.

:rip:

Yeah it makes a lot of sense. It's basic math.

AI is based on total numbers and not percentages so that comparison is absolutely pointless. If you make percentages out of those airplay numbers and assume the 200M is #1.

That's before the update

Song A 1.0000 (200M)

Song B 0.2500 (50M)

After the update

Song A 1.0000 (198M)

Song B 0.2424 (48M)

Harry is getting massive decreases in Europe. If America follows we can say goodbye to 300k and to #1 debut

No chance anyways with the Spotify stats

It could have had a chance now that the problem is fixed (is it right? I can find it from the search bar and on his page). The song was added to Teen Party and Mood Booster playlists but still no TTH tho

It's on his page but when I press play it says it's not available.

Another attempt to make it understandable

A 90% lead is twice as big as an 80% lead. So if a lead goes from 90% to 80% that means either the #1 song is selling half as much as before or the #2 song is selling twice as much as before or a combination of that. With a new release it's obviously mainly the #1 song losing sales.

And nobody is saying that's not normal / expected for that lead to disappear quickly, but it's just blatantly wrong to say Harry is not losing much. That's all.

Harry is really bleeding in the UK, hopefully that means that Symphony can snatch the #1 in two weeks :dancehall:
