60% of streams from Mayhem and Chromatica come from collaborations, surprised?
Yes, a lot of Gaga's recent single success comes from collabs. But who cares? People bring this up all the time as if these legendary and super successful artists collab with Gaga out of charity or something. They collab with her because of her legacy, her talent in vocals and songwriting, to get exposure within her extremely dedicated and loyal fanbase, to get media attention since she's still a huge current name, etc etc etc. There's a reason Gaga can get cast in huge big budget movies with Bradley and get artists like Ariana, Bruno, Blackpink, Elton John, Bad Bunny (performance) wanting to collab with her, meanwhile Katy gets….Dr Luke and new artist Doechii to collab with her

Hot 100 | Final predictions (8/1/26): Texas #1 (x15), Boston #3, Midnight Sun #14
I did NOT know Taylor was still number 2 with that song Are most the points airplay I'm assuming?

NPR: "The Shelf Life of a Pop Star (Katy Perry, Lizzo)"
Why are we acting like Lizzo flopping is brand new and something that's never been seen before when she's just the 2020's Meghan Trainor (whom I'm sure was the 90s someone, etc) And I dislike Katy's music post-2014 but lumping her career state in with Lizzo's is delusional

2020s Edition: Singles that killed an Era
Nothing on TTPD really stands out as a sure fire hit (especially by any artist other than Taylor at her peak), and I'd argue Fortnight and MBOBHFT are the only 2 with real lead single potential. Guilty as Sin is cute but I feel like it's Lavender Haze-esque to me: a good-but-not-amazing pop song that isn't really catchy or unique enough to be a hit Fortnight at least had the chill midbeat lo-fi vibe that was unique-ish for Taylor, and didn't really kill the era. I do think in hindsight MBOBHFT probably would've been the better lead, but I see the strategy

Midnights went from streaming monster to catalogue nightmare. What happened?
One of these things is not like the others…

Enough time has passed. Who can release the same time as Taylor and secure a #1?
Taylor just went number 1 for 2 weeks (and then number 2 for 2 weeks) with a boring country soundtrack song. Literally no one at the current point in time Do yall ever get bored with the same questions?

Biggest streaming week for female songs on Hot 100 | #1 TUN, #2 WAP, #3 Ophelia
Ariana really jumped from like, current day Dua Lipa level (and that's no shade) to the most famous person in the world in the span of just a few months Like, she was genuinely a bigger celebrity than Taylor (and everyone else) at the time for (before a hardcore Swiftie drags me, no her sales weren't as high. I'm talking celebrity status) But it is kinda weird how that insane peak seemed to literally last just a year. She's obviously still massive but she's kinda "just another pop star" now when she was, finally, the pop star. Going on a music hiatus to film Wicked after the more lowkey positions (and when streaming firmly established itself + culture shifted a ton post-Covid) hurt her a bit tbh

Lana's flop single ended Watch It Burn, why?
Why is this even thread worthy, Lana has been bigger than Katy since 2018

Katy Perry - "Watch It Burn"
Girl…😭

HDD Final: Olivia #1x2 179k, Drake #2 90k, Ella #3 83k, Morgan #4 79k, Noah #5 66k
I feel like this album will do better because there's been so much promo for it (the Grindr takeover lmao, World Cup halftime, Sabrina single and Coachella appearance, interviews etc)

Did Heated Rivalry ruin this song's legacy?
No it introduced the song to a whole new audience that would've never cared about it beforehand

Vie (Doja Cat) vs Virgin (Lorde)
I love Lorde (she is my number 1 fav and who got me into following pop music way back in 2013), but Virgin is just very…fine…at the end of the day. David is genuinely great. Current Affairs and Shapeshifter are very good. And then everything else is just "fine"

Add another "essential album:" Taylor Swift
I feel like to properly showcase her career, you need at least one of the imperial era albums (Midnights, TTPD, TLOASG). TLOASG is whack so either TTPD or Midnights. I'd prob go with TTPD

Where do the other pop girls place on Apple Music's top streamed artists of all time?
I'd guess SZA, Billie, and Rih are in the top 40. Bey, Gaga, Nicki, Cardi, Summer Walker, Adele, Lana, Dua, and Olivia all in the top 100 I don't think any other women would be on the list except maybeeee Meg

Apple Music's top 20 most streamed artists of all time | Drake #1, Taylor #2
Semi unrelated but does anyone know why Apple Music is so much more male and hip hop dominated than Spotify? Like even within the US

Katy Perry surpasses Gaga in daily Spotify streams! Shocked?
So Katy with a mega viral track, a second "average" viral track, performance at one of the biggest events of the year and in a high profile relationship is finally doing basically the same amount of streams as Gaga, who released a soundtrack single two months ago. Awesome I don't even dislike Katy either and she's clearly bigger than people act sometimes on here but cmon lol

Tyra Banks sues Netflix for defamation & creating "false narrative"
Honestly no one really gives a **** about her being lowkey sociopathic because she's hot and camp She should've just ignored the documentary and moved forward with a new cycle of ANTM at Netflix in a year

Spotify | Dirty Blonde | Day 3: 1.46M
Honestly could've been way worse. She should take this as a win

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ surpasses 10 billion streams on Spotify
This album has aged so well. It's definitely still way too bloated and has some clunky lyrics, but it's arguably her rawest album ever and contains some career highlights
-
hate that i made you love me extremely stable, which is a very good sign. Surprised?
It's absolutely being bolstered by he tour, but it also would be doing well (just not as well) without it. It's clearly not an Aperture or Giver/Subway situation

Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
wow this album is so much better than I was preparing for after drop dead. She really is a Taydaughter releasing the worst song as the lead
-
Olivia Rodrigo - 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love'
I'm only on maggots for brains, but I will say I think Olivia is writing that new love, crush feeling better than any of our mainstream pop girls have in a long time Its "easy" to write a powerful heartbroken song, but a lot harder to pull off a happy-in-love song with good lyrics (AKA doesn't rely on melody) without seeming super cheesy. But she's doing it really well so far
