This year I've gotten into a-ha in a big way and Scoundrel Days might be one of the most bulltetproof 80s albums I've come across, I need to listen to it more These majestic choruses and glacial soundscapes... they were really operating on a different level.

I listened to Tove Lo's The Way That I Am a lot during a really depressive phase and I haven't touched that song since I've gotten out of that chapter of my life

I mean Rihanna and Gaga were in similarly financially desolate situations when they were in the midst of the Good Girl Gone Bad/The Fame Monster era respectively, so this does not seem that unbelievable to me Obviously, Zara has huge demand, but at the moment her operating costs seem to still dwarf her net profit. If all goes well, I am sure she will soon reach the profitable zone, just like Rihanna and Gaga were able to by 2010.

I like how off-kilter and dynamic the production is but I was really hoping for one chorus without the pitch-down vocal effect ngl. The video is amazing, it reminded me of Beyoncé's Haunted.

Something I really appreciate about this album is the way almost every song has a bridge/middle eight section that does not just rehash a verse/pre-chorus melody but instead introduces new melodies to the song. That level of care and craft is seen so rarely in pop songwriting these days Like even the shortest song on this album, Stay, manages to sneak in a gorgeous bridge and feel complete. My favorite bridge though has to be the one on Never Get Over Me, it's just so elegant, light, playful and satisfying. This album grows in my estimation more each day!

Her catalogue is eternal. And to think music was basically just a stepping stone for her to become a full-on business mogul Imagine the damage and domination she could have caused if she had been fully committed to music the entire time. Oh Rih, the mercy you show!

The bulk of the Off the Wall (1979) album still sounds so fresh and funky. Dua Lipa or Bruno Mars could release this song this decade and no one would question it And this song always gave me proto-hyperpop vibes. To think it is 26 years old

The way this has aged GLORIOUSLY The euphoric instrumental break that leads into the final chorus is just such a perfect moment of pop joy. And of course she sounds flawless on the song and looked like a goddess in the video and every performance ahh Also love this slightly more "organic"/warm-sounding arrangement she did with Dannii at World Pride:
