The telltale sign for me when I was with my avoidant partner was that every time we would get more intimate or I would suggest that we should take things further he would immediately distance himself. It was almost as if the more I tried to get closer to him, the more effort he would take in trying to pull away from me. It just got very stressful for me and I couldn't take the nonchalant, nothing matters attitude he had.
