Hello! Welcome to my fourth Best Of event, and my first as a college student. I have been working on this for some time, and am excited to finally get it started. Best Of has always been one of my favorite aspects of ATRL. It is a wonderful way for me to express my passion for music alongside dozens of other friends who are equally as enthusiastic.

 

This year, I will be following a slightly more ambitious schedule than last year. My failures to finish the 2014 and 2015 events are still fresh in my mind, though, so I will prioritize finishing what I have planned to adding on anything extra I might feel tempted to. 

 

As you'll know if you followed my past Year-End Events (2014, 2015, & 2016), I will have multiple countdowns ongoing at the same time. They are as follows:

 

Top 40 of Top 40 - A ranking of my 40 favorite mainstream hits of the year.

Top 40 Rhythmic/Urban Hits - Formerly a top 30, this has been changed to a ranking of my 40 favorite rhythmic/urban hits of the year. Anything that got played more on rhythmic and urban radio more than on pop will go on this list. Note that songs that did equally well on all of those formats but that I judge to be more rhythmic/urban than pop will chart on this list.

Top 25 Non-Hits - Formerly a top 20, this has been changed to a ranking of my 25 favorite non-hits of the year. Note that these songs must have all been official singles (so album tracks or promotional singles are not eligible).

Top 10 Albums - A ranking of my 10 favorite albums (any genre) of the year. This is the first time that I will be putting together a list of albums for a Year-End Event, and I'm really excited to get this one underway.

 

You might notice the lack of a country list–which would be a first for me–and the lack of a worst songs list. I remain uncertain as to whether I will put those lists together this year. If I do, they will come at the tail end of the event. 

 

The event will begin late on Thursday, December 14th, after I fly home following my last final. As usual, I have compiled a preliminary schedule that will serve as a general framework for the event. It's not meant to be precise and simply helps me to see if I'm falling badly behind or running markedly ahead of schedule:
