It's cute but falls a little bit flat imo. It gave Kate Bush and shoegaze vibes at first, but at parts turns more into Bleachers album song. The bridge is pretty great though.

it definitely gets better the more you listen!! it's a sloooooow grower but I think I'm beginning to get it now.

Unsure if it's the production's fault or not tho. Cuz my brain understands that in theory the chorus should be very catchy, there's just something stopping it from getting imbedded in my mind like her previous singles.

Based off her Zane Lowe interview, it's obvious that she released this as the first single to set the stage for the story that her album is going to tell, not because it's the most commercial. That's why drop dead is track one. She keeps referring to it as "the first chapter in the story, the first date, it sets the tone for everything else"

if she's trying to tell a story about her relationship it makes sense to start with the beginning than to release a single of the heartbreak
