Hopefully this is her last album. I really enjoyed the sample of the old songs but the christian themes are boring.

I finally listened it and yeah, this is easily her worst project by far. The productions are amazing as always, but the lyrics delivery...no words. Her religious conversion made more damages to herself, her creativity and mind than anything else good.

And that 30 minute silence sh*t....ijbol

She's so far gone but there's like, few remains of the Maya that I liked scattered around her recent albums: CIRCLE from this one, Popular from MATA, and Borders from AIM. The Injeçao / Bucky Done Gun in TRUMPET 5 was a nice surprise though.

I can't believe that so far, not even in the pitchfork review, no one is mentioning what seems completely obvious to me...

For one, there is only about 20 min of music, not counting the interludes, which are just samples of old songs combined with her going on about nothing much, and then the "30 min of silence"; it's clear that these have been added to bulk out the album. And even then, two of the songs are just carried by the choir.

There is a real lack of musicality throughout; she has completely given up on trying to have any flow or rhythm when she spits, it's exactly the basic cadence that kids or some middle-aged politician would employ to imitate rap, and half the time the melodies when she sings are not in harmony with anything else in the track, she sounds tone deaf in parts.

Given that it's a concept album, inspired by 7 countries, revelations etc, the concept is paper-thin. She doesn't really say anything at any point, the reflections on her spirituality are so banal or even juvenile, there are no standout lyrics, which even in her worst work, she usually delivers. It's almost parody; to me, it doesn't feel at all like there is any passion or sincerity behind the Christian mission.

Otherwise, personally, I find it intensely right-wing American Christian/megachurch vibes, and it comes off as bad taste, especially contrasted with this pretence she has, dipping into esotericism or being so worldly and spiritual and travelling to Egypt, Lalibela, etc. I can't put my finger on specifically what it is. Does anyone else see that? The way she talks about God and Jesus is often uncomfortably self-centric or even combative or antagonistic.

Also, the word "gospel" is doing serious heavy lifting here, considering she doesn't in any meaningful way represent any actual passages from the bible, the trumpet sections are all her own incoherent ideas, I think it would be more accurate to say "inspired by gospel" but again, I just think it's such bad taste to posture her own wacky daydreams as gospel.

It's all so bland and contrived. And she has the audacity to release this while tearing down Rosalia + Lux, just bizarre....

The only listenable ones are Circle, Ride The Sky and Everything. And I'm STRICTLY speaking of instrumentals.

The lyrics are ******* TERRIBLE and it's not even because of the Christian theme (doesn't help tho), but because it's the most corny **** she's ever written.

If this truño is getting a vinyl pressing, she better make one for MATA because that was a banger compared to this.

As for Pitchfork...... dont even get me started. How THE HELL you give this a 7.4 but then a 6.5 to MATANGI. Lets not speak of MAYA....
