i recommend this hilarious interview, she says how the album started out with Ride and being a lot more dancey than she re-connected with her soulful roots/Devotion vibes with her newfound confidence

Especially since in that gap between albums her podcast became so big. If she came out with another Tough Love or Glasshouse type project for Album 4 instead of WYP, there is a world where I think she might only focus on the podcast right now. At best, she'd be stuck in the sort of rut that Emeli Sandé and Paloma Faith are trapped in where regardless of album quality, no one is really paying attention to them musically anymore.

I feel like she's still doing her own thing and being creative within the dance/disco lane. Like she's referencing artists and parts of the genre that a lot of others who just dip in for a surface level disco album never even consider.

Plus the beauty of that ballad/AC lane of her early work is that is always there and easy to go back to if the interest in this version of her ever dries up or she wants to pivot. I'd even argue we got one of the best ballads of her career in her disco era because lord Pale Blue Light is such a gorgeous song.

As a continuation of my villain arc - Ride is unlistenable rubbish.

I'm looking forward to the album. I hope it is closer to an updated Devotion + songs like Remember Where You Are. But I'm extremely underwhelmed by the output so far.
