Executive order expediting marijuana reclassification has been signed.

Featured Replies

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to expedite the reclassification of marijuana – an effort to increase research on its medical use but not fully legalize it.

"This reclassification order will make it far easier to conduct marijuana-related medical research, allowing us to study benefits, potential dangers and future treatments," Trump said in the Oval Office. "It's going to have a tremendously positive impact."

The order — which directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to hasten the process of loosening federal restrictions but does not include a timeline, according to senior administration officials — comes after an intensive lobbying campaign from the cannabis industry.

Cannabis is currently considered a Schedule 1 drug, along with heroin, LSD and ecstasy, which are not considered to have any acceptable medical use, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. It will eventually be reclassified as a Schedule III drug, which, according to the DEA, have "a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence."

The fact that this is still a cultural discussion in almost 2026 devil

Meanwhile, in my state I can drive to the smoke shop 5 minutes away and buy as much as weed as I want.

Get a med card I have mine and buy weed all over Orlando!

The way marijuana legalization is still a "controversial" talking point when even solid red states are legalizing it for recreational use is crazy.

What's even crazier is that the US seems to be kind of ahead of the curve on this issue globally. deadbanana4 I was shocked when I visited Europe and it was not legal in any of the countries I visited.

As long as they do something about people who have been locked up and working slave labor over small amounts of weed, I'm all for it.

When does this go into effect? So they can't arrest you for having it anymore? Gonna light up a spliff in the street to celebrate

Trump making a good decision. Christmas really is approaching.

A "good decision" the day before the deadline for the release of the Epstein files is nothing more than a good distraction
