Does Child Stardom Still Exist?

Featured Replies

It kind of feels like with the regular channels (Disney, Nick) imploding, true child stars that become extremely famous don't really exist anymore. Which, considering what we know about Disney and Nick, is probably a good thing. It'll likely become harder as Hollywood continues to become a shell of itself.

Or is there another way in this present culture that children become as famous as the child stars of old? If the old model is completely gone, what is the new model and is it as impactful?

I mean the child stars of this day and age are the kids of family vloggers and tiktok kids. They don't have the same impact or career trajectories as the kids entertainers on Nickelodeon or Disney though.

That kid from Adolescence is nominated for an Emmy and got a lot of acclaim so that definitely counts

No, social media lines blurred between children, teen and adult media. It's kind of all the same and mixed together now.

There's no teen stars anymore either, at least not the same way as when I was a teen. That's probably why a lot of pre-teen girls dresses so grown and focus on things like skin care today. Skin care was only something that you got presented with if you were an adult 15-20 years ago, you wouldn't find that in media aimed at children and teens.

Kinda sad tbh.

McKenna Grace (The Handsmaid's Tale)? First child ever nominated/youngest nominee for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

This reminded me of Star Search where many of our faves came from. It's obvious child prodigies still exist but the world they are navigating is vastly different. Will be interesting to see if promising superstars come from the reboot.

Umm no one knows her.

I think things are just more niche for them, as with all other matters of pop culture. Like the Percy Jackson stars are probably really popular with a certain age set while the rest of us barely know they exist.

To answer, yes, we just don't care about them as we're not the target audience
