Lady Gaga

This is part 2 of the Lady Gaga discussion.

If MAYHEM dropped in like 2012, it would've had 5 or 6 singles. It's lame how streaming has made single runs so short. monkey

The problem is, none of them took off after the album release, which was very disappointing. ZombieBoy had a moment, but yah it kinda fizzled.

Gaga's success really has been just because of her talent in every sense. In the beginning she definitely used fashion and controversies but she really hasn't relied on celebrity narratives, like public breakups or dating famous people, scandals etc to create a moment. I know it was a conscious decision on her part so she could have a private life and I respect her so much for it. The only thing is it does feel like she has to work harder and every time she releases she has to deliver a punch creatively to create impact because there's never a big narrative or public intrigue into her personal life.

When she breaks up with Michael to date Rebecca Black and scraps LG.ATE's Requiem-infused post-apocalyptic original album for a slutty R&B-inspired masterpiece

Even Artpop Act 2 would be a better career choice

By the time Mayhem was released it is already being carried by Abra and both DWAS which became massive on their own avenues.

It's a good problem to have that two singles did really well to the point that it kind of overshadowed the deep cuts. Pokerface also had a resurgence because of coachella so that's also a factor.

2025 was really her year!

DWAS and Abra will become discography staples for her ballad and electro sides, which is great for this far into her career to keep adding more. But I still think having no video for GOE or VIY ready for album release was diabolical. It didn't have to be both, but at least do one.

That remains my only real critique of the entire era.

Yeah it muted the album release considerably and it's not something any popstar of her caliber is doing these days.

VIY should've been the one pushed, it was obviously made for radio with that production and melody, and the subject matter (Tony, and no one can say otherwise) is a lot more personal and TEOG like than GOE (which would've been a good promo track)

High on a hill, you call

(Tony: I left my heart in San Francisco / High on a hill, it calls to me)
Two lovers regret their time
Once in a blue moon, I forget you

(Tony: Blue moon, You saw me standin' alone)
And once in your life, you'll be mine

(Tony: For once in my life I have someone who needs me)

Gaga just turned it into a love song like Speechless

It might have been inspired by Tony's music but she even confirmed that she's talking about Michael in the song. Also don't think Speechless was meant to be "turned into a love song".

"I'm a loser in love so baby… after all the boy and the girls that we've been through" ducky Some of Gaga's best ballads are sung from multiple perspectives / storytelling roles. Just like TEOG is a love song but also about her Grandfather, Speechless is a love song but also about her father, and VIY is a love song but also about Tony.
