In 2023, Ice Spice was everywhere. She seemed to appear out of nowhere and instantly became one of the most viral artists on TikTok that year. The online hype was massive, and the music industry pushed her heavily too, with many A-list celebs co-signing her. 
 

That year she scored four back-to-back Top 10 hits and landed major collabs with Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. Many people back then genuinely thought she was going to be the next big female rapper like Cardi or Nicki. Lots online were expecting her first album/next era to smash even more. 

 

But then 2024 happened. She released her first studio album and it bombed hard. Both the album and its singles flopped dramatically. Since then, her last three singles this year alone have failed to even chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

 

So what happened to Ice Spice? Where did all of her 2023 stans go? Why didn't she end up being a major female rapper like Cardi or Nicki? Will Spongebob save her career? Discuss!

There's something really gutterbutt about Ice Spice. 

 

She doesn't have the talent. Truthfully, she's lucky to have gone as far as she has. 

Her songs were mostly about pooping which the GP struggled to connect to

even GAYLE has more talents than this girl i fear.....

She has no talent and her music is mediocre at best (Riot's beats saves it from being completely dogshit). Relying solely on your ass can only get you so far.

She has zero talent... all her songs sound the same, with the same scat lyrics 

Trash since day 1

She doesn't release good music, a lot of her stuff is just cringe and it's already a difficult market for female rappers.

That's what happens when you only have 1 flow and the same lyrics on every song. We all knew she would be nothing more than the trend of the year. 

IBS gays couldn't bring themselves to support her after she switched to being a full time scat rapper

She didn't click with the GP, I guess. It can't just be because she's untalented with barely listenable music, seeing as that hasn't stopped some other artists from smashing.

I still don't get why she named her record "Y2K" with 0 y2k influences on any of the tracks. 

I remember when she first started getting popular and I was confused. For the most part, her music was pretty boring and she seemed untalented (in my opinion).
 

I think her looks played a big part in her rise to fame. Like she has a nice butt and she's a beautiful girl. She's a musician and looks can't carry you forever… A lot of people also stopped stanning when she got skinny.

 

Additionally, her drama with rising alt-pop star Baby Storme -and later with Cleotrapa - negatively impacted her public image. Most of her fans were barbz so the leaked screenshots of her talking about Nicki caused people to switch up.

 

I'm a contrarian, so after she fell off and everybody became a hater (like I was), I wanted to start stanning her. I thought her career was done for. But she might have a hit on her hands with this "Big Guy" spongebob song…? Maybe a comeback is possible.

Why did she lowkey make a bigger kids-movie bop than Rih though

Her image was irreparably tainted with miss poopy fart lyrics so it became embarrassing to associate with her and the repetition of grah, stop playing with them Riot, and samey music got old real quick. 

Meme hits can only take you so far

She started flopping when her brand got associated with Nicki
