Both are really good, but Virgin is my AOTY

i feel like virgin has the slight edge.

Mayhem is really good and a grower, but gaga had to bring it down with that horrid bruno collab

They are both good but Virgin wins overall, as it has better lyrics, more interesting and varied topics, more intricate production, better cover art, more diversity in terms of sound, and more replay value.  Mayhem isn't bad, but it's a little too cohesive, to the point where the songs blend into one another and I zone out while listening.  Virgin requires my full undivided attention, and that's why it's so special. 

love both, but I will always prefer Gaga

when it comes to the singles, Lorde literally chose the 3 weakest songs  

Didn't listen to Virgin in full but Mayhymn has the better singles.

I am a Liddo at heart so I have to choose Mayhem but Virgin is like very very excellent.

These scores actually quite reflect my opinion, but I personally would give Mayhem 94 and Virgin 92.

This is wild to me because the soundscape on Virgin is pretty similar in every song and meanwhile in Mayhem you have such variety. How is an album that goes from Abracadabra, Perfect Celebrity, Killah, Zombieboy, Blade Of Grass too cohesive?

I'll give you Blade of Grass, yes.  That ones does stand out as being sonically different from the rest of the songs on the album.  But all the other ones you mentioned pretty much have the same "kooky-upbeat-electropop-that-could-be-played-at-a-gay-Halloween-Party" vibe.  They all start to blend together at a certain point.  Whereas the Lorde album has bops, bangers, ballads, spoken-word interludes, as well as tracks with just a synth and her voice.  There is immense sonic variety.  Mayhem doesn't have anywhere near that level of diversity, so don't give me that bullshít.

it almost sounds like these users here make these comments by only listening to Mayhem 24/7 while only knowing 2 songs from Virgin

Did Lorde do any promotion for this album? I don't recall not once performance

What kind of description is that? I could say that Virgin sounds like "sad tumblr girl music that you play in your room" and play that game as well. 

Completely glazes over any real discussion about the various musical influences in Mayhem, from grunge (Disease, Perfect Celebrity), to industrial (Disease, Killah), to house (Abracadabra), to rock (Perfect Celebrity, Can't Stop The High), funk (Killah, Zombieboy) disco (Zombieboy, The Dead Dance) and 80s synthpop (LoveDrug). 

Meanwhile Virgin all sounds pretty much like electronic dance music with similar production throughout. Not that it's bad, but arguing that Mayhem is less varied is just plain wrong.

I've always liked Lorde and gave Virgin a fair shake, but musically it's underwhelming even if I appreciate some of the themes and lyrics.

 

Huge step up from Solar Power though.

Two of my favorite albums from this year, but I gotta give it to Mayhem. The attention to detail on the production is insane.
