Was Xtina's B2B the wrong move?

Featured Replies

No, the problem was Bionic. Don't get me wrong, the album is good, but after a 4 year break from the industry "good" wasn't going to cut it. She needed something amazing.

I want to preface this by saying I'm an Xtina fan, so no one drag me… but the image shift between B2B and Bionic was too severe. She went from a classy 50's blonde pinup doll to some over sexed trashy vamp and it made her look insincere. She lost any of the credibility she gained during the B2B era.

And then the music itself. B2B may be a bit bloated, but it's still a fantastic album. A fully realized vision with a cohesive sound. Meanwhile Bionic was all over the place, and the quality was severely lacking. I mean the fact that Xtina released a song called I Hate Boys on an album she dedicated to her SON shows you she was just throwing **** at the wall. Then on B2B you have deep cuts like Save Me From Myself, The Right Man, Here To Stay :jonny: Then Bionic has… what? I Hate Boys, My Girls, and Vanity? :toofunny3: I actually like those songs but the difference in quality between the B2B tracks is severe.

There's a lot more I could say but I'm gonna stop here.

  • People talk about her "radical shifts" when she was still just a screaming blonde lady every era. The only shift that was truly radical was Stripped and that was the height of her fame.

  • The long breaks between albums slowed down her momentum.

  • was she supposed to change her race

I don't see the decline in sales with B2B, because, objectively, the revenue was in par with Stripped, due to the price of the album (sold at x2, without a standardized 1 album version like Beyoncé did with Sasha).

If she would have added 8 minutes to B2B we would be talking about a 4xplatinum record. But is just a certification for fans, because the revenue went to RCA and her pockets at the end of the day.

For business, sometimes things don't match what the fans expect and thats okay, what matters is money. And she did a hell of that with the record and the tour.

But she declined after that, so the problem was either Bionic and/or her long breaks.

I think releasing a greatest hits album instead of a new album was a bad decision, B2B was fine as a era, but needed a follow up.

no it was a great step in her artistry.

Her two biggest mistakes where 1st doing the christmas album instead of a second English album during the pop boom which would've bridged over the stock from debut to stripped

the second was the greatest hits album. Should've released the original bionic earlier.

She was never going to have a long shelf life.

I would prefer you say that behind our backs, not in front of our faces #thankyou

She had no chance to last. Her entire career has been molded on other popgirls… (Britney during her first 10 years, then Lady Gaga…). She has never had her own image. The fact her music was awful and that she was a horrible person did not help.

:clap3:Monday morning, birds of prey,  elastic love etc

I wish she would re release the album with the original vision

I think it was the right move, but Christina took way too long to release albums and didn't milk B2B the way she should've. "Ain't No Other Man" was a solid start to the era, but she really should've released "Slow Down Baby" as the second single, as the ballad as the second single wasn't really the thing to do in 2006 (and I say this as someone who loves "Hurt"). She also picked the incorrect third single with "Candyman" as it was too novelty.

Also, B2B had too many songs and could've been a more solid album with a few songs removed (I loved the first disc). OTOH, if it was so close to being counted for two sales, she should've just gone all the way.

In fact it was a good move, Xtina scored with B2B her best first week numbers, her biggest tour and it reached #1 in most countries than any other of her albums. ANOM was a global hit, Hurt one of her biggest European hits and Candyman her biggest Oceania hit.

It sold 4M WW and 1.7M in the US, on par with other "succesful" albums like Circus and The Best Damn Thing.
