imo best folklore single order would've been smth like august - exile - cardigan - the lakes or smth like that, but honestly it's hard to even imagine folkmore in the framing of regular pop eras considering how unorthodox and irregular everything abt ms. thing's career has been for the last 2 years

this is true tbh. I kind of want her to go on a quality streak but making one more commercial + quality album wouldn't be a bad move career wise. It is the perfect time to go for something a little more commercial as it will MOVE lots of copies because she is prob in another imperial phase of her career right now which is insane.

I made a thread in early 2020 what it could have been the singles and it was something like that:

 

#1 Paper Rings

#2 Cruel Summer

#3 Lover 

#4 Afterglow

#5 London Boy (Maybe the order was a little bit different but definitely these were the songs I chose)

 

And I got lashed for that. And these songs are the songs with the best recurrent streams today.

What really stood out to me about folklore was that for the first time, she didn’t necessarily write about her own life, but about other people’s stories - fictional, real or somewhere in between - hence the title, folklore.

 

The last great American dynasty is about a widow living in a big Rhode Island mansion. I won’t spoil anything, but there’s a nice twist at the end.

 

Seven is about childhood and the contrast between her own, which was happy and carefree, and that of a friend whose name and face she can’t remember - all she remembers is stories of abuse and plans to run away.

 

My tears ricochet is told from the point of view of a ghost witnessing their own funeral, but among the attendees is a traitor. The song is also symbolic of Taylor’s relationship to her former record label boss, Scott Borchetta.

 

Cardigan, august and Betty are part of a trilogy, each sung from a different perspective in a teenage love triangle.
