Taylor saying she & Max started improvising musical lines to the drum beat, and the lyrics of Shake It Off were written entirely by her is interesting tbh. I thought they'd contributed to the lyrics at least a little bit too but it was just melodies & production. The 33% rule they have for songwriting is such bullshit.

It's known that Max and Shelback don't contribute lyrics when they work with Taylor/ other topliners. She talked about writing with them multiple times and even melodically, she basically comes up with 95% of the melody ready before the session (she came up with the Shake It Off chorus melody & lyrics on the spot). 

She's too generous with her credits and that Max rule is very problametic (he even gets automatically credited if someone in his team does something on a song without his involvement )

I like this base because of its diversity, @Great Username is not an insider (simply because he's from UK, considering the fact that ATRL had being calling Taylor LOCAL for years before 1989 track list was deeply and accurately analyzed here by him just based on what she said in public), but still a legend.

You caught me Kevin , I work closely with Taylor (I'm her cat handler/ baby sitter). Basically all those jet flights were me taking Meredith, Olivia and Benjamin from house to house, and it's all Meredith's fault, she's such an abusive employer , and she can also talk. The things I heard coming out of that cat's mouth! .

Meredith is the one who's not allowing Taylor to release music .

Yeah, the making of Gorgeous video was a realization in that regard. She basically brings a final product to the studio. But to see it as a fact in a legal document hit a bit differently. 

 

The way songwriting credits work in the US is very messy. I know in some countries, writers are credited for lyrics and composition separately. It makes so much sense that way.

Yes, that's why I like how credits are listed in K-pop as Lyrics, Composition, Production. I remember when Ice Cream Cake came out and everyone was saying "it took that many writers to come up with that, lol" when the lyrics were written by only two people from those writers, one wrote the English lyrics and one wrote the Korean ones. Both Selena and Ariana only contributed to the composition, and that can basically mean anything form a random ad-lib to a background instrumental melody, to a slight variation on how to sing a verse... I wish it were the same in the western music business, it would put an end to a lot of the controversies surrounding it ( Producers being considered the sole writers of a song when they work with a female songwriter, Pop stars masculing through to get their names in the writing credits so that they'd be taken more seriously as an artist when all they do is add a vocal harmony or an ad-lib...)

UMG will not allow her to release 1989 TV until this is over because then they can be sued as well. The song was played 83 times in Taylor zip code total. Sony who owns the label that owns the Plays song, doesn't support the lawsuit and the Exec. VP declared it.

Taylor should consider learning how to produce. Like doing the techy stuff in the studio too. Kate Bush did it and she made some of the most amazing beats of her time. I think Taylor can do it and it would be a new artistic challenge for her. She already writes her lyrics and creates her melodies on her own...the next step would be to also learn how to do that tech production stuff. I bet she already gets some of the gift of it. Would be cool to have a completely produced alburm by her in the future though I get she enjoys the collaborative aspect of making music so even if she writes her lyrics and melodies she prob enjoys having a producer produce and put their input and opinion on her music before it is finished but I am so curious to see what she'd do. I really think she would enter a new level in her creative process if she did that. It could also be a good narrative for a future Album of the Year win in like a decade or something...like "Taylor's first COMPLETELY solo work".

interestingwell then she should really consider going for Speak Now then...I get she cant re record Reputation yet and she prob wants to save Debut as her last re ecording for symbolic reasons and now that we know she cannot release 1989 for legal issues then she really needs to go with Speak Now. For all we know this 1989 lawsuit thing could be extended even more...plus dont we have confirmation she was already working on Speak Now re recordings? I think it would be best to just go for it for the fall 2022 and then go for 1989 TV for summer 2023...

She was probably tired of all the legal stuff and said, '**** it, I'mma just release a new album.'

So she’s literally stuck in limbo, UMG ultimately won’t allow the release of 1989TV and SIO because they would then be involved (they aren’t atm cause they have nothing to do with the master of SIO) and then there’s the trademark issue with Speak Now TV  it’s either debut, reputation when it can be done or a new original album and tbh I think the next release is a new original album.

 

I think all of this coming out today really shows us she wanted to release these a lot quicker than what she’s been able to, but her plans have been derailed
