I could kinda see folklore/evermore as a stepping stone to something even greater. Now that she’s entered alternative territory, there’s so many ways she can go, the possibilities are much less restricting than in country or pop.

Taylor’s always been smart that she’s kept her musical evolution relatively slow, and deliberately so, in my opinion. There’s always been room for improvement. Could she have written electronic pop hits and folklorian lyricism in 2010? Yes, I believe so. Or at least, she could have tried. But by not playing all her cards immediately, she’s been able to sustain a really long career. Compare her to Olivia, who’s already been a teenage sweetheart, then a punk-rock chick, then a grown-up beauty queen in the span of one year. I fear it’ll affect her longevity, but we’ll see though.

 

For future Taylor projects, alternative would allow her to explore a sonic world that is entirely her own. So far, she’s mostly gone for fail-proof production borrowed from the past or from contemporary music. Alternative as a genre allows her to explore even more!

She needs to do this, she got the money and it’s very profitable. It can help her start in advance before announcements and avoid leaks/leaked information, and also be able to do bigger quantities since the demand is there and it’s insane but everything keeps on selling out instantly because of the shortage and push backs...
