I really want to love this but the video is more like a visualiser and the last part of the song needed to go somewhere and it doesn't.

I can easily hear Troye singing this so you can tell he wrote it.

Maybe it will grow on me...

Poor Rita honestly. She needs to do like Anne Marie did prior to Therapy when she realized the era would tank: collab with every hot UK act and then include them on the album

You & I was already a huge decline for her and the next one will do even worse if every single is solo :suburban:

she needs to serve dark pop + RNB

this generic stuff is so play out

Rita has been an outsider in the UK market since her move to BMG. she might bag a feature now and then, but her commercial days are over until she changes labels again.

Exactly. Idk why she signed with them at such a young age when her career is still very in the now

this is my fav from her since Praising You :emofish:  i feel like whatever she puts out is gonna flop at this point tbh, she hasn't maintained a strong fanbase and if her team doesn't push her to radio or have her miraculously get a tiktok hit somehow i don't see a path to a successful single. she could release song of the summer quality wise and still no one would care :rip:

Exactly but she won't find a fanbase of her own releasing songs like Sheat so good luck with that album rollout FIRO (Former Icon Rita Ora)

Rita is in such a weird predicament to me.

In one regard, it doesn't feel like it was ever on the cards for her to be a lasting artiste. Maybe at the very beginning, but it was even clear during her first era that it was going to be a case of middle-of-the-road Pop. Jump on any sound, any collab, etc, and ride it til the wheels fall off. And for a longer time than any of us thought, it worked.

Because of that, I applaud her for somehow still being "around". For context, she literally came out in the era of The Saturdays, JLS, and Pixie Lott (the UK girlies will get what I mean). All of whom are basically no longer active and, in many cases, have moved on to entirely different careers.

At the same time, despite ironically releasing consistently better music now (IMO), it's been a case of diminishing returns with each new release. Outside of the top 10 album debut (which was blink and you miss it), her BMG run has been fruitless.

Spending so long out of the major label system and not having too much to show for it also doesn't make it easy to go back. There's no benefit to a major signing her, and any deal now would pale in comparison to what she would have got (in terms of $, push, and ownership) than what she had before.

In short (lol), she's between a rock and a hard place.

I thought FAE (her ex mgmt) was the problem for her choosing mid songs but it turns out that she is the problem. She should have someone leading her when picking these songs as singles. Both YOLM and Heat are very mid songs to launch an albomb when she's at her lowest as an independent artist with no big fanbase.

Surprised people are not here for this, it's a huge bop to me. Albeit a little basic.

I think her issue is branding, the public doesn't really seem to take her seriously as an artist and she hasn't maintained a dedicated fanbase (just like most female UK acts) and she doesn't have indie cred so it's difficult to be taken seriously or score a hit without going viral (which is easier said than done), being a feature on someone else's song or getting a major push on streaming/radio (which is a gamble if it doesn't pay off).

She's lucky she has other avenues to fall back on unlike a lot of her peers. It's a shame because she is genuinely a fantastic performer so deserves to be bigger.

But that's because she had such a log break between her first and second era, and once she finally established herself with her 2nd era she released too many stand alone tracks after the album and covid happened and she lost her momentum.

Covid totally slowed down her momentum, but I wonder how she would have fared if Big and the Bang EP had been released instead of How To Be Lonely. Bang felt like a stronger follow-up to Ritual.

She really needs to release stronger material. It's just not on the level of Phoenix, Bang EP or Dj collabs such as Ritual, You for Me
