Even though I'm a die-hard swiftie I like listening to other popstars too, Gaga is obviously one of them. She has been able to create solid works with good concepts after her great peak 2008-2011 and her commercial performance is too underrated, imagine keeping your sales constant for more than a decade:

Joanne (2016) - 201k copies

A Star is Born (2018) - 231k copies

Chromatica (2020) - 274k copies

She is always criticized for being a flop or fad of 2011 but then how do you explain such a constant commercial hold? besides album sales we also have several top 10 singles (Million Reasons, Stupid Love, ROM, Shallow, DWAS of which 3 of these are huge global hits) + mega viral hits with Bloody Mary and Always Remeber Us This Way  coupled with newfound critical acclaim, many awards won and her touring strength which is about to get even bigger, after the Chromatica Ball LG7's tour is going to go big and will probably hit her peak with the Monster Ball.

There's a difference between consistency and longevity though... Consistency would be how regularly or reliably something happens, and longevity would be how long something lasts or continues over time.

 

She's been consistent with the first week sales, but not with longevity...

She is very resilience, even as a stan I thought it was finally over for her with J:Fad, Harlequin and Disease. 

 

But she somehow bonced back. I think her versatility plays huge part in it.

well, simply put, you can't. there is a reason the OGHs have to constantly shift the goal posts in order to discount her continued success throughout the years. we all know the "solo" metric was made for her after Shallow dominated the world.

You sort of proved OP's point tho, the avg for her albums after TF/TFM is 45 weeks, and she improved a lot after ARTPOP too.  We'll need to wait and see how Mayhem does, but we should expect somewhere roughly around 45 weeks too.  Consistent charting, consistent debut numbers, consistent hits every few years, etc.  That is the definition of consistency and longevity. 

 

Gaga has said many years ago that one of her main goals as a musician is to have a long career.

And this not considering the 100+ weeks of ASIB and probably 53+ weeks of mayhem on BB200. 

Gaga is here to stay 

You don't get consistency if people don't want to tune into you time after time and they're not gonna listen forever if you keep rehashing old sounds, themes, concepts, etc. and don't prove you have the artistic chops to show growth (re-invention is not necessary if you can at least show growth).

 

Like Gaga for example has spent the better part of the past decade proving her artistry extends beyond her early work and showing people just how talented she it. The GP has seen this side of her and now no longer just thinks of the meat dress. Mayhem is resonating with people because it sounds like she's back to her hit-maker self but she sounds different, more refined than she was a decade ago.

 

And Taylor has also proven to have this sort of longevity. She hasn't diversified herself like Gaga has but she's stuck to her guns the whole way and people resonate with that. People get invested in picking apart her songwriting and learning her lore so she keeps people invested.

 

Not every artist has the ability to do that. That's not a bad thing, there are plenty of artists who shine so bright early on but struggle later and they can still produce great music. But that doesn't cut it if they want longevity.
