if it doesnt come out next week and she teases it on tiktok for a month i fully dgaf about this. That strategy is SO TIRED and DOESNT WORK.

I have no idea what to expect from this song commercially and I feel like her label doesn't either. They probably have a huge expectation based on the fact "pop Doja" is something people craved for during the Scarlet era, but Jealous Type, as catchy as it's surely going to be, is quite risky 'cause it's so different from what she released as a popstar in the past. It doesn't have the Say So sound she relied on for Kiss Me More, or the trendy sound she went for Planet Her (where she kept on mixing contemporary r&b/hip hop with various pop influences). It's not even the typical cross-over she usually smashes with (that would have been Acts of Service). 
 

They really wasted the chance to release this a couple of months ago: she could've had the smash hit or the summer, or she could have underperformed but ready to release a safer song (again, Acts of Service) in late August/early September and have the same effect PTTR had for the Scarlet era.

 

At this point, an underperformance after months and months of teasing would be horrible. Unless she pulls of an Unholy type of situation where the teasing went on for what it felt like decades and the song became a sudden worldwide smash as soon as it was out.

The way this era would already have a #1 smash had she released this the day she leaked it with THIS as the official video.

I think this would have absolutely been the song of the summer and mad it wasn't released a couple months ago. I still believe this will be an absolute smash for her tho. It's pop doja but not reductive. It has a fresh sound from her and from anything else out right now. It's a great hook with catchy and reliable lyrics. This will be a #1 hit.

Cast her as Storm with that wig and outfit NOW!
