Katy Perry - Self Inflicted Appreciation Thread

This song is so beautifully written and that chorus is so damn catchy :jonny5: One of my favorite Katy songs and it deserved to be a single, it had smash written all over it.

see she could literally go back to this sound and we would all love it.

She fumbled the bag unfortunately. She could've easily gave us a G4U type song.

Could you imagine...

1. I Kissed a Girl

2. Hot N Cold

3. If You Can Afford Me

4. Waking Up in Vegas

Okay I'm gonna be honest, as I was typing out the potential singles run from an alternate universe, I couldn't actually figure out where to put this song... but I still think it is one of her best songs and maybe the best don't always have to be the biggest!

iconic song and I fear this is the type of sound she should have explored after Smile

This was one of my favorites from that album. She really came out the gate swinging.

OOTB has a lot of raw potential, imagine an album with that songwriting and more polished/expensive production from her later eras.

Its so good. I wish she went rock again.

The problem is that Katy lost her instincts as a singer-songwriter after Teenage Dream. What makes a lot of One of The Boys work is that she puts in a lot of visceral detail and passion on the album, driven by the hunger she had for fame. Post-fame that hunger has been replaced by complacency and so if even she did pop rock like this again, it would lack the hooky composition and emotionally affective core to actually resonate with the GP.

In a perfect world, her breakthrough hit would've been Fingerprints followed by If You Can Afford Me, and then Thinking of You and Waking Up In Vegas as they were, with the era being rounded out by either Self-Inflicted or the title track.

I don't understand why she refuses to go back to this sound and style of writing, the authenticity she taps into here and the lyrical quality is on a completely different level than anything she put out afterwards.

This song is sooo good, like whole OOTB. The sound, the lyrics, the vibes, the style, all is perfectly aligned with Katy's personality. But she still has it all obv, if she wanted to go back that route she surely could do it. Manifestating this energy for KP7:worship2:
