Yeah that Yujin video is like 90% autotune and clearly was recorded at a different time than the video was taken. Solar is a much better singer and really struggled with the song. Aint no way a mediocre singer like Yujin is so casually screaming high notes barely moving her face. She's trying way too hard to look pretty instead of actually sing  That's the dead giveaway for me

I never got into this song, but honestly, major respect to JYP for throwing her SOMETHING (a solo before Suzy)

 

All of JYP's muses have been amazing and artful: Jung hwa, Sunmi, Yubin, Fei, Suzy, Nayeon, Jihyo. I really miss when he had a more active hand in his acts musically.

I think we just need to accept and make peace with the fact that JYP will never treat Jeongyeon like the lead vocalist she truly deserves to be. It's been 10 years, and nothing has changed. At this point, I get the feeling that she might actually be content with the lines she gets - especially since she seems close with the company.

 

That said, I still find it strange how unfair TWICE's line distributions are compared to other JYP groups like SKZ, ITZY, and NMIXX, who generally have much fairer distributions. Jeongyeon is objectively a stronger singer than anyone in ITZY for example, yet ITZY members often get vocal highlights like high notes and ad-libs, with every member being more utilized. Just look at how Chaeryeong - who's a far weaker vocalist than Jeongyeon - is given moments to shine vocally in ITZY songs, while Jeongyeon barely gets anything in TWICE songs. 

 

If Jeongyeon were given even just a few of Nahyo's lines, TWICE's line distribution would already feel so much more balanced.

Anyways, let's hope we get more solos and unit songs in the future, so we can actually hear Jeongyeon's voice the way it deserves to be heard.

Her situation in general is so unusual that has never been seen anywhere else in Kpop. Cause how can someone be a lead-vocalist and barely gets to showcase their vocal talent

A lot of good points made by y'all. But let me just say this: idk how much if this "maybe she doesn't wanna sing that much" narrative is true lol. On one hand, she really wants to sing and always gives her all for her lines. That's even more evident in the live stages how much she's focused and genuinely happy on delivering the notes and she's barely slacking. But then again, there's moments where it feels like she's clearly doing it for the team. And as y'all said, she's now a veteran in the industry and has given so much to that company that now she's in a position to demand more if she wants. And I think we do see that more nowadays because she's been more prominent in Bsides and title tracks in terms of singing more challenging parts and also sharing Jihyo and Nayeon's parts. But one thing is clear as @Ryan said, she's really the vocal backbone for Twice's lower harmonies and background vocals, and maybe that's always been the focus for JYP when it comes Jeongyeon's voice. I'm just rightfully upset most of the times because she doesn't get enough shine for parts that she can absolutely do justice, while those parts are given away to much much weaker vocalists like Sana and Mina (I'm not talking about the bridges Mina gets and the killing parts Sana gets, they absolutely own those, I'm just talking about the more challenging higher range parts that Jeongyeon is made for). I'm  not gonna complain about Tzuyu because she's actually been bringing it vocally lately. But yeah my point is, even though she's a veteran idol, sometimes its still hard for such idol to argue against company decisions? Idk.

also my biggest qualm and I think the biggest missed opportunity for Jeongyeon whose side-effects she's still facing today is that: during I Can't Stop Me, which was arguably their biggest song globally at the time after Fancy, she was kinda sidelined as a vocalist. Well yes, most of it wasn't on purpose as she went on hiatus and missed all the promotional activities. But that was like such a turning point for her in terms of her popularity declining from then on because:

A. She went absent right when they were getting really popular among international audience with insane views on their performances

B. Her last and only chorus on that song, whose chorus is one of the most difficult choruses to sing in kpop btw, was taken over by Jihyo in the live performances. So most people who discovered them this era don't even know Jeongyeon can SING sing like that because of this. In the studio version, it was overshadowed by Nayeon's belting and adlibs so people mostly overlooked JY's part. I'm just pointing out ICSM because that was really such a pivotal moment for them in gaining global fans, and Jeongyeon was at a disadvantage in terms of being recognized as the lead vocalist of Twice. Anyways that's all chile I'm exhausted.

 Honestly, I wasn't going to say anything until someone else brought it up, but the whole cover felt a bit off. whether it was the heavy-handed pitch correction or whatever autotune they layered on. Don't get me wrong, Yujin is a decent vocalist, but there's a reason she wasn't IZ*ONE's main vocalist. They absolutely can, but that Yujin "cover" is just incredibly processed for no reason. I LOVE Yujin she's probably one of the few rare all-rounders we have in kpop and a good vocalist, and I mean she already sang I AM so many times live and she hasn't struggled much hitting those notes. So why didn't they just let her sing Golden without all the post-production polishing?

How can ANYONE (and by that I mean Wakeone) be this stupid? This is not gonna fix anything and if something, things are gonna get worse. There is always gonna be favoritism rumors so let them be instead of admitting you lied to try to push some of your trainees as individuals so it wasn't too evident you wanted them in the line up, but when people go and expose your ass you terminate their contract? are they for real? And in top of that they still want to protect Geonwoo's dignity even if he is not with them anymore. Come on, show us more favoritism Msnake!

 

I'm also not buying Geonwoo's apology. I believe in second chances (that is why Im voting for Leo), but you cannot change an attitude from night to day without professional help and he was still showing sings of his rude behaviors like a month ago so come on, be for real, would you have REALLY changed if someone had not expose you? I don't want Sangwon to be in a group with someone that is still portraying those kind of attitude and I still consider him mid (also adding the blatant favoritism towards him) so I will no be voting for him.

Yujin version of golden is actually better than the original, i demand a full version.....so its autotune and vocal production that make them vocals good on records...it doesnt mean the original singer is worse its just that her voice is too grating on the record

 At this point, keeping him on the show will only harm its reputation and the other contestants involved. The damage is already too much, he admitted to the bullying, then tried to justify it as 'being a tough leader,' which is deeply problematic. It's really baffling as to why they'd allow him to stay when, in the past, contestants were forced to leave over unproven allegations. Yet here, Geonwoo has openly admitted to his actions.
