I don't think anybody outside of a few stans expected 143 or Bionic to be smash eras, more-so with 143. But only last year Joker was GUARANTEED to be making 1B at the box office and Gaga was going to be snatching up awards for her portrayal of Lee.

Can you explain the thought process behind comparing a movie to an album?

Joker 2, a $200M anticipated Blockbuster compared to an album everyone already knew was gonna flop. It's night and day.

143 was following Smile, Gaga's FAD was following acclaimed 1b grossing Joker.

 

She managed to achieve unthinkable in 2 weeks:

movie critical bomb

movie GP's bomb

album bombed

movie bombed

Everyone knew 143 would flop, plus she was already a flop

 

Bionic ended her career

 

But Joker 2 lost the most money , literally nobody expected it. It wins

joker 2 debuted/peaked at #1 both in usa and globally.

 

bionic debuted/peaked in top 3 both in usa and globally (it had couple #1s in some countries tho)

 

143 DIDN'T debut/peak in top 5 in usa nor globally (it DID NOT reach #1 in any country)

 

so 143 aka katy's comeback album/teenage dream of the 2020s is the biggest flop among these. anyways i'm hopeful for KP7 and y'all can leave if you didn't like katy in her KP4, KP5 and KP6 eras 

Joker 2 flopped even after:

 

-Immense payola and a big studio production

-an already successful franchise

-an A lister like Joaquin Phoenix who had critical and commercial success with the previous Joker

-the goodwill that Lady Ga Ga had after the Bruno collab

 

Like its not even close to the other two options: 143 came on the heels of a lukewarm Smile and a PR disaster that kicked off a hate train against Katy. Bionic came when Christina was already way past her peak. Meanwhile, Joker was expected to be big, especially by the Lady Ga Ga fans, who were bombarding every online space for months saying how it's gonna break all kinds of records, be acclaimed, and skyrocket Ga Ga's profile with maybe even Oscars on the horizon. They were NOT expecting it to bomb the way it did both critically and commercially. 

Joker 2, no one expected the other two to be successful lbr

Most artists nowadays would wish for their albums to "flop" like Bionic did.

Now this is not true. Bionic was the flop that ended her career, similar to Witness. B2b while a step down, was still a successful album and she was still relevant.

I think 143 was more embarrassing because Katy's decision to work with Luke caused so many people to actively root against her. She actually got booed at the VMA's… that's f*cking shambolic.

 

Joker 2 is objectively the biggest "flop" here because nobody was expecting 143 to set the charts on fire. Joker 2 was following an Oscar win, HUGE hype, it's predecessor grossed over a billion dollars… so yes, the sequel failing this spectacularly really is something unprecedented… that being said, nobody is blaming Gaga for its failure. Most people are putting the blame on the director. As someone who's seen it - Gaga chews up her scenes and delivers a decent performance.

 

Bionic was the fist major "flop" era we saw play out in the age of social media… it seemed bad at the time, but in hindsight we've seen bigger commercial disasters since.

They really thought they ate with Gaga and her musical Jazz thing being part of a DC straight men movie lmao

Yeah but there was a still a 4 year gap between B2B and Bionic and her relevancy was already waning though. Plus it definitely isnt that much of a bomb when we look back.

This is spot on. Katy and xtina had accompanied hate trains going on at the same time, whereas the JFad bandwagon hating is more against the film as a whole. But I think the fact that Katy was already a flop, and just flopped mor, while JFad was expected to be huge gives it the edge.

It's funny how much sales have changed nowadays as Bionic debuted with 110K in the US and that wouldn't be called a 'flop' or a 'bomb' by todays standards. That entire era was done so dirrty.mp3 as it had some of her best material. 

FAD is the definition of a BOMB. Nothing comes close to it.

Bionic ended Xtina's career for good 

143 was the final nail in coffin for Katy's
