'Losing You' - Solange Appreciation

Featured Replies

12 years ago today (October 2, 2012), Solange released the critically acclaimed song 'Losing You' from her critically acclaimed 'TRUE' EP. The song marked a turning point in not only Solange's sound, but also in how she approaches & executes her visuals.

This song also supported in bringing Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) to mainstream music as not only a producer, writer and singer but also as an artist. Solange would also go on to perform the song on stage with her sister Beyoncé at Coachella in 2014.

A reminder that this was actually totally Dev's song, given to Solange which also led to the drama between them & their falling out

Dev really did that :clap3: hope he brings similar vibes for L4

And an even bigger reminder Solange contributed to vocal and structural changes to support in elevating the song. Shoutout to both of them for this masterpiece. :clap3:

This is what I mostly remember about the song - Dev and Solange's feud.

overall the whole EP is great

But they did not really fall out. They were together on a Calvin Klein ad curated by Solange.

This song is a 10/10, but if you haven't checked out its parent EP, True, you should. Losing You is like the weakest song of the bunch.

The song and the visual are perfect :clap3:I remember listening to the song everyday

She and Dev made magic together on this EP, and it was a turning point in her career.  I still listen to the EP every month.

He did the same thing to Sky Ferreira with Everything is Embarrassing, and got really defensive over it when publications starting calling it the song of the decade or whatever.  The truth is that Dev's vocals are sometimes not the right fit for his songs, and he had problems accepting that earlier in his career.

I have to totally disagree. it's definitely 'Don't Let Me Down'. LY is very much the second best song on the EP after 'Bad Girls (Verdine Version)'.

Fair! I think the project bangs track 1 through 7. Personally, Losing You being so commercial compared to the rest makes it less interesting for me even though it is certainly a banger and a beautiful record. I would put DLMD near the bottom as well, though I agree that Bad Girls is the best song on the project. I think Lovers in the Parking Lot deserves more shine. That video is divine.
