i keep seeing this new Charli XCX minion everywhere, so i tried listening to him. both his music and aesthetic seemed really cringe and tryhard to me. anyone else or is it just me?

It reads more weird than nostalgic tbh. I think his sound is decent and 100% get what he's going for but I don't think it translates well in 2024.

Yes!! I've known his music for like a year and he has zero sex appeal for someone making music about sex and club lifestyle. And that music is also pretty mid. Like ‚sex' and ‚guess' literally sound the same, they have the excact same structure 

He's giving ice ice baby singer vibes.

Nah, I like his EP and am excited about the album. As someone who was a teenager during the indiesleaze years his look and sound take me back. It's fun!

Beyond the music (not bad, not brilliant), the discourse around him is so cringy. For starters, he's ugly, anyone acting like he's hot is clinically dehydrated. But even worse, these bandwagon/casual Charli fans talking about him like he's on the level of somebody like AG is so annoying. He has a single digit number of songs in his catalogue. The hype around him is giving emperor's new clothes. I first heard about him many months ago in an article about the "dimes square music scene" being a psy-op & he was the focal point of the piece. To the chronically online, he's a sexy hitmaker, to anybody in touch with reality, he's an ugly nobody. Idk who the **** is pushing him so hard to make it but it seems to be sticking
