X Factor: "You look too gay"

Matt Terry has revealed his experience of winning the X-Factor nearly ten years ago was tainted by what he had to deal with behind the scenes.

Terry, 30, said he was told to tone down elements of his image while on the ITV talent show because he "looked too gay".

Speaking to ITV News, he said he was given "nowhere near" enough support to deal with scrutiny from the tabloid media, which appeared more interested in his sexuality than his vocal talents.

I have always known that X factor has a toxic environment. So many contestants were humiliated for no reason. They can't sing? Well on any other normal show judges would just tell smtng like "sweetie, it wasn't good, get more practice and come back next time" but on XF you will get bullied and laughed at by judges, audience, and all you gonna hear is mockery behind you back when you getting out of stage. Imagine what kind of emotional stress receive contestants at that moment? And now turned out there are homophoby behind the scenes. Kuddos to this guy for speaking up, Simon Cowell needs to be dragged for this ****-show

That's really sad. Even sadder that some gay men here make jokes about it.

Did you just find out gay men are toxic?

This is why Nicole Scherzinger was the best judge on that show.

I think many contestants have exposed how fake and manipulative the world of X Factor was, and how they would especially turn auditionees into laughing stock for the world to make fun of and hate on concurrently for ratings. That all makes it really hard watch anything related to it now.
