The lead single "yes, and?" was not embraced by Ariana's usual fans... my sister who loves Ariana's music was unmoved. Her next single is "we can't be friends (wait for your love)", do you think she'll see more success? I'm always rooting for Ariana.

given her track record of great 2nd singles,  it has a good chance of doing well

I mean we know she’s consciously going for a different sound in reaction to how the first single was perceived to the point where the original choice of second single was potentially changed.
 

So by a process of elimination it’s probably a dull RnB ballad as those kind of tracks appear to be catnip to the U.S. market and therefore her best chance of scoring a hit and rescuing her brand.

If she releases something catchy and brainless like the majority of her music, it’ll measure up to the Positions singles. If she continues to go down this sad attempt at ‘love and light’ house vomit, then no. She should also work on the way she looks - people are scared about her weight, as well as this blonde look reducing her youth/appeal. This affects her public opinion which also makes the music do worse.

If it's THE obvious single of the album like it has to then yes. We need a massive song this time.

To give a serious answer - I do think she’ll continue to underperform despite solid stan-driven first weeks. 

 

I don’t think the lyrics on this album being mostly self-written will help either. Ariana is not a strong lyricist and this album needs to be quite earnest and articulate for the GP to take it seriously after her recent scandal. She’s going for carefree and fun, but I think it comes off as flippant and immature to the public.

I’m not scared at all actually I was just making a stupid joke because it’s kinda dumb to speculate on a song that we haven’t even heard a snippet of yet. If what I have heard about the album is true it’ll be a step up from yes, and? which regardless of it’s a hit or not, is a win for me because I quite like that song.

I wonder how long the, ‘you stan….THIS’ thing is gonna be done until people realize it doesn’t work. Anyways, Ariana was a trend chasing maggot that took 0 attempts to release a single (or album) that wasn’t crafted for the public. The second she diverted from what people expected her to release (and look like), they threw said garbage back at her. She needs to fix it soon or else younger fans will go somewhere else for a better pop star.

Depends whether ilya/max martin wrote more of then lyrics than ariana.

 

regardless it will debut well even if has very poor longetivity like yes and. she has the fans but she needs to deliver good material.
