Should the Lilith Fair be revived?

Featured Replies

Hey. In 1997, Sarah McLachlan founded Lilith Fair, a tour showcasing female talent. The tour was named after Lilith, Adam's first wife who demanded to be his equal.

The tour took place in 1997-1999 and featured artists such as Fiona Apple, Meredith Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Jewel, Lisa Loeb, Joan Osborne, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Monica, and Sarah herself.

In 2010 a revival was attempted however it fell apart due to a poor rollout. Kelly Clarkson was supposed to headline but backed out due to the messy financial situation of the tour.

Could a Lilith Fair with proper production work in the 2020s?

Personally I think if Taylor Swift took command, it could be huge for her legacy.

I think this would be awesome to revive.

Taylor, Maddie & Tae, Kelsea, Maren, Avril, P!nk, Kelly, etc.

Isn’t the point to highlight more underground artists or people outside top 40 radio? Fiona Apple, Meredith Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Jewel, Lisa Loeb, Joan Osborne, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Monica, and Sarah herself.

I could see this being successful in 2023 though with the right lineups.

I fear it would be too Phoebe Bridgers’d if they tried to do something like that now. Quirky white ladies don’t do it like they used to :loki:

I’m obsessed with Lilith Fair though and would still love to see it return with the right lineup. I’d kinda just want them to bring back a lot of the women like Fiona Apple and Tracy Chapman

The Liz Phair snub in the OP :biblionny:

But yeah that would be awesome. Someone like St. Vincent or Angel Olsen should headline.

The way I learned of this tour last year when my Spotify wrapped put Lilith as one of my top genres :dies:

anyway YES!

Not really, all those artists were embraced by top40 radio at the time. If anything it wouldnt work today cause that type of sound is no longer mainstream or big on pop radio.

Literally no Phoebe Bridgers song has been a hit on top 40.

It would become infiltrated/ruined by men tbh

If they can make it right and withsimiliar spirits to the original festival then success will follow. If it's about money and greed it could be another version of 1999 Woodstock

Lots of females artists today can benefit from this. Especially the popular sounds & singer-songwriter trend seems to support it too.

From popular alt girls suchs as Billie, Lana, and Olivia  to well liked indie girls such as Caroline Polachek, Mitski, Rina Sawayama, among others. To the legends such as Avril Lavigne.

You need a big headliner to drive interest that supports the undercard so just like in any festival.  The album that Sarah McLachlan released the year she started lilith fair is 8x platinum. Tracy Chapman, Jewel,  Sherly Crowe etc were also very popular at the time.

Taylor is currently to big for it to make sense for her as she needs to tour stadiums to meet the demand for her.

Billie Eilish or Lana Del Rey would make  more sense as the main headliner. Then artists like Mitski, FKA Twigs,  Kacey Musgraves, Janelle Monae, Phoebe Bridgers/boy genius, Rina , Laufey, Carly Rae . Plus veteran artists like Kelly Clarkson,  Avril, Miranda Lambert. Then some smaller artists.

She would never join or associate with anything that has Lilith in the name :bibliahh:
