I think forums like this will always be able to succeed provided the niche market is large enough. Stan twitter is a cesspool and ultimately creates an echo chamber. A forum like this creates a fairly egalitarian environment for posting (no likes/reposts will meaningfully boost a posts visibility unless it’s a thread killer) and there’s a lot more opportunity for cross pollination.

Indeed - literally the reason why I can't stand to be on Madonna Nation, Gaga Daily, Madonna Nation etc because all they do is idolise and fawn over their faves. How boring! Even though I love Kim Petras (for example) she obviously deserves certain lashings and here she gets them. Same with every other artist. Yes Taylor is smashing but someone needs to remind them she's pedaling a simplified, generic product and that's why the masses lap it up so.  

People like myself who've been lurking around for ages but couldn't register to co-kiki with everyone else have kept this site alive. Each wave of new members keeps the momentum going bc we have years of fumes and reads to unleash.

Ot, was lurking for a couple of years and always missed the registration. But it's nice to have a spot where you can discuss personal, pop culture and even things like legislation and news. And it became my homepage for quick browsing on what the girls are fighting over today. 

I mean, despite of some people being messy in this forum, this site it's still a better and more civilized place than Twitter and Reddit where any bot or deranged stan can come to troll or post random fancams

This. I remember lurking into this site since 2017 but only being able to join until 2021 

Pop music will never be low brow

It's the only place to have in depth discussion on pop culture. Stan twitter will just spam "ENDED CARDI." over and over again. Reddit (popheads) exists but the format of that website makes it hard to truly see full conversation.

Fhejh I simply meant that some people have Twitter as their go-to app and some other have Tiny Chat rooms but my go-to is ATRL and that’s the case for a lot of members on here which is why the site keeps running

I discovered ATRL when I was in the middle school. That was 10 years ago!! She's truly the Madonna of pop forums.

can't believe I discovered ATRL when I was 15 years old during the Time Good Girl Gone Bad was released! oof what a peak. 

I was here since Ariana Grande's 2014 Problem single thread  so many things have happened since then. The HBO Lemonade trailer, #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty and the way so many KatyCats and Monsters rejoiced while the Swifties had to cope hard because we didn't know who to believe, the R8 teasers and meltdowns, threads about PI vs Rise , Katy's overhyped comeback domination and eventual downfall, the Reputation leak

 

So many things get talked about here, this is the only site where you'll get 10 gay men kiing and cackling at Ariana Grande's management 'payola'ing her songs to the Top 2 of Pop Radio with graphs and charts about how much of a bigger hitmaker she is than popgirl XYZ while also having these same users be very empathetic and expressive talking about actual politics while the next thread is them posting gifs resembling cum and d1cks about the ugliest looking men with 6 packs

Yeah I’ve been here since 2013 (omg) and used to keep the Dua base alive before FN 

Ummmmm this site was a fun escape for me back in the day (#RihannaNavy) during some tough times, so I hold affection for it even when I can't stand it at times.

It has a perfect balance of a fun atmosphere that embraces funny drama but still able to provide substance. Pokemon rates, Golden Hit, The Color Game are prime examples. 

 

I discovered ATRL in 2013. The thread ruined by the "shop till you drop I guess" comment. Idk how I even found it. It was through a random news article. 

What?  This forum is more dead than it’s ever been (threads barely get any traction unless 2-5 members are arguing back and forth) due to power addicted mods that love posting bi-monthly sticky threads about ‘New guidelines are up, kids. This is how we run things here, get with it or get lost’ and mediocre members running rampant.

 

You used to have to be funny to get attention, but now anyone can slap on a Taylor or Dua avi and say the most generic/bland ‘girl, I know you aren’t coming for me when your fave did this’ drags and somehow at least 2 people will still  the post.

 

But even with this forum going straight to the gutter, it’s still better than other places with god awful oversized avis and signatures, so congrats or whatever.
