Um… excuse me. Who else totally produces, writes, mixes her own music, creates art and directs music videos. No one else has touched the otherworldly and ethereal sound she has made throughout her car

  • She serves some techno bops (Welcome To The Opera, Shinigami Eyes, etc) but she's not a quality artist anymore.    P.S: how are you gonna put FKATwigs on the same sentence as Pink Pantheress

  • She’s fulfilled her life’s purpose by giving us Visions, Art Angels and Miss Anthropocene, she’s free to enjoy her billions now

She needs to drop her magnum opus (David) and retire

Those were my exact thoughts before coming in this thread :ihype:

I don't really know much about her or her music but the fact that she had a relationship with Elon Musk tells me all I need to know! :siptea:

I feel like she peaked with Art Angels. I was obsessed with California but she's a bad performer, her vocals live are really bad and she has no energy.

she truly peaked with art angels. it's really difficult for the girls to reach that kind of high, but for Grimes herself it's impossible to get there again looking at the material she's put out after that album.

Everyone tried to say she was over with Miss Anthropocene cuz of Musk but well, time was the ultimate truth teller and MA is well regarded :michael:

That said Welcome To The Opera and PoG are kinda shite so we'll see about Book 1.

Could she even be considered a one-hit wonder. I don't ever remember her having something remotely as successful as even Azealia's "212"

As a person she annoys me so I don't even pay attention to her like that. But musically I haven't been disappointed yet, so I'm always willing to listen to what she puts out.

I will say Magdalena Bay have kind of filled my Grimes void since they put out Mercurial World.

You better let them KNOW

Caroline Polachek kinda took her lane with her album so yes

Edit: I meant no :rip: I just woke up lmao

I stopped using her after Art Angels :giraffe:

Miss Polisterin is getting worse with each listening :deadbanana4:

It’s definitely the Elon Musk association and maybe her weird personality for some.
Grimes deserves her flowers for her hard work starting from nothing to crafting her art that no one else can replicate. She lowkey invented a new genre - ethereal. Yes, there were dream pop and ambient but she pushed it to another planet

All that bland pasta and drug addiction is catching up to her

We dont need book 1, she can keep it closed

I've seen her live 3 times in my life and she got progressively worse as a performer

Her time is up

Not this lie. Bjork did everything grimes did but better and with MUCH better vocals a decade or more before grimes "invented" anything

None of those other girls are doing it like her IMO, I'm sorry. She has her issues but Miss Anthropocene, Delicate Weapon, Art Angels - her work just hits. She transcends what other similar artists can do when she bothers to, like, actually release music

Like the biggest problem by far with Miss Anthropocene is that there wasn't more of it besides Delicate Weapon on the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack :gaycat6:

i have hope it her but i don't think she could catch up anymore.

i dont think those other artists are like grimes but yeah, she doesnt seem to have it anymore :chick3:

they're all very different. i wouldn't compare melanie martinez with fka twigs.

It’s true. Bjork is an alt electronic pop legend, and Grimes was definitely influenced by her, but their music is unique on their own.
We can argue non stop about who invented or popularized a certain sound. The point is that it’s silly to disregard such a talented artist just because of an association with some person, or an unusual personality, or album delay. Her last album from 3 years ago was acclaimed

Grimes and Björk are barely similar and it’s not useful to compare them. Björk is extremely experimental and hasn’t made accessible pop music in decades. No one wants Grimes to do that. Her main issue is that she developed questionable taste with this cyberpunk-EDM obsession that her core fanbase isn’t here for, it’s that simple. She can always return to ethereal pop music if she chooses to, but it doesn’t diminish her immense talent.

I think they’re more than barely similar tbh! Both exploded onto the electronic music scene causing considerable stirs. Unique voices. Experimental instruments and POV looking towards the future. Performers and DJs. Proud female producers. I can go on and on. Please.

My POINT was grimes didn’t come up with a whole genre on her own. My point still stands

Yes she is a pioneer and copied by a lot of artist.
