The Marías Average score: 7.50 High score: 10 (@4Real, @State of Grace., @Ace Reject) Low score: 2 (@Quicksand) The highest-ranking album track from Un Verano Sin Ti is this dreamy indie-pop jam about fantasizing of running into an old lover on the beach, downing a couple of bottles of wine and skipping another sunset to explore each other bodies’ again. “Otro Atardecer” is a duet with the band The Marías, whose lead singer María Zardoya, a Puerto Rican expat, takes the bridge in an exceedingly rare moment of English on the album. Best bit: “Si la vida me da de nuevo el placer/Voy a volverte a besar como aquella vez que el sol se escondió/Mientras la noche llegaba/No sé qué sucedió pero me perdí en tu mirada” is a lovely image ATRL says…: “I love the Marias's album from 2021 and this was a nice collaboration!” @Ewan Chaos gushed. Becky with the good hair and elevator squabbles now behind them, she recounts all the little things that make him a good partner – his emotional transparency, his willingness to listen when she’s had a rough day – though the sultry soul groove suggests they’re not a couple who has fallen into platonic complacency. “Plastic Off the Sofa,” a sweet metaphor for that stage deep into a relationship when you’re comfortable enough to embrace each other flaws and all, won the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. No take your time! At this point, I gave most of the songs left really high scores so I'm asking for 7s and 8s to leave POTS isn't a fave on Rennie but I prefer it over a few tracks left. The first album eliminated from the rate is shockingly Midnights, with this ambient tale of a New York love affair’s rise and fall its final track standing. Red has always symbolized the most powerful emotions for Taylor, but the shades she invokes here – burgundy, scarlet, ruby – are darker and more sedate, as her early passion withers from the neglect of long distance. “Maroon” debuted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the historic release week when the album occupied the entire top ten.
