Illuminati Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 I thought this was about crime or something, very tasteless
Thinking Of You Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 It’s ironic though because they have it the easiest.

visions Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 How are we supposed to know? What are you trying to insinuate with this thread?

MotoPapi Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 This is not nice to post. There might be members in this community who are struggling and thinking about this and this feels like shaming them to me.
Devin Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 This thread. I mean Blacks, Hispanics, Asians handle struggles and difficult times better than whites which plays a factor to why the rates are higher in the superior race.
Europe Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Social isolation: White Americans may be more likely to experience social isolation or disconnection from their communities, which can increase their risk of suicide. This may be due to factors such as changes in family structure, geographic mobility, and job insecurity. Access to lethal means: White Americans may have greater access to lethal means of suicide, such as firearms, which can increase the likelihood of completing suicide. Mental health stigma: There may be greater stigma associated with mental health issues among white Americans, which can prevent individuals from seeking help and lead to increased feelings of hopelessness and despair.
Chaos Angel Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Not sure, but I would assume it's a combination of (1) guilt from white people (esp. white males) may feel like there is nothing to blame for their life failures whereas POC can blame the system being against them (2) POC in various neighbourhoods are already used to a fight or flight mentality that they can die anytime. This is all spoken generally with room for exceptions of course.

Struggles that easily effect our mental health.

It's a provocative way to start the topic but my intent was not to delegitimize the struggles of anyone that's dealing with mental health struggles or suicidal ideation. The data does suggest that the relationship between suicide and privilege/discrimination is more complicated than some narratives would suggest though.
Lipgloss Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) Because it's been normalized to bully white people. Edited April 22, 2023 by Lipgloss

I think the mental health stigma is much higher in the POC community mainly because of spirituality and religion. We’re told to “pray it away”. I’m surprised Black people are the lowest a good chunk of the time because I thought Black men had the highest rate (maybe it was disproportionately highest) but taking your life is VERY taboo in the Black community and so is mental health. You’re more likely to be called “crazy” and be told to get closer to God, than get actual help with your mental issues.

I think facing a more "explainable" or "justifiable" struggle against external forces is less likely to lead to suicide compared to more "internal" personal struggles. Maybe blacks who struggle to deal with their struggles in a healthy way lash out in different ways? Supposedly suicide rates have gone down during times of war for example (after war though, veterans often have higher risk of suicide). The US also has a rather high suicide rate compared to MENA, SEA and LatAm countries (like 3x+ higher). Maybe those countries have better family cohesion?

beautiful player Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 White people probably have less healthy social support structures and communities, which prevents them from receiving the adequate help to counter those kinds of thoughts.
