It features Kim Petras. The resident target gays love to project their own self-hatred onto.  then there's Sam who's unapologetic in their gender expression and weight.

When Sam was skinny y'all called Sam boring and was pandering to the General Public

I like it, especially the production…but it is a little gimmicky.  So I get why ppl might dislike it.  

I like the production and Kim's part

 

The chorus is unique✨ but it doesn't tickle me I fear. I don't really dislike the song but wouldn't go out of my way to hear it again. The Disclosure mix is an improvement though.

 

edit: I didn’t answer the question. Sam can be annoying but people do too much on them so that explains the strong reactions to the song.

Those songs are boring and forgettable. They dont have that UMPH that UNHOLY has. Unholy has a dark vibe to it which I love

It’s corny and Sam in their current incarnation just doesn’t serve sex like that.

For me it suffered from overexposure, like it was being played EVERYWHERE for some time. I never needed to save/download it to learn all of the lyrics.

 

Its too catchy and catchy songs often get annoying fast.

this is arguably the catchiest song in recent memory.

It's not just ATRL though. I remember when the song came out and there were a lot of people dragging it. Even now, people are saying that they "miss the old Sam Smith". Just a few days ago, I saw many comments on a Tik Tok of a person pausing the playing of a vinyl to smash it, stating 'Unholy' as one of the songs they would do that to  As someone who likes Sam, they have such amazing bodies of work in their discography and the thing is they CAN give bops sans How Do You Sleep? or Diamonds. This was just a...mess.

They don't hate Unholy, they hate Sam's new music video.

The original is a mess, but they kinda got me with the Disclosure mix. Still lacks a bridge tho.
