The “soul” you heard from Kelis was actually the hoarseness from her throat and lungs from the 100 cigarettes she smokes a day. Let’s not forget Rihanna also admitted to smoking cigarettes to sound “soulful” during performances. Beyonce doesn’t need to fabricate soul because those who get it, get it.

I didn’t mean soulful vocals, I meant putting actual soul into the songs. That’s nowhere to be found on Bey’s album.
