I think it was cermaic crowns she had on. Something of that sort, and she simply took them off. 

 

It's possible it was a recent procedure because her teeth now are smaller and have visible gaps (due to shaving the teeth to a smaller size to fit the crowns onto)  unless she had them since the 90s. 

the difference is even starker when u compare them to her older photos

She stopped wearing her retainer, so her teeth spread out a little, that's what makes the most sense to me.
