The song blew up and set a classical/strings sampling trend last year.

 

But then SM did it again in Japan with Marionette (WILDSIDE B-side), then again with Birthday and then again with Bye Bye (Birthday B-side). These samples weren't bad (especially Marionette) but it was giving overkill kinda.

 

When you set trends you also need to know when to let them go in favor of new ones. Birthday would have possibly been better if they made it a rockier song (same with aespa's Girls actually).

tbh Birthday just needed more cohesion. either make the sample anchor it more solidly like FMR or go for the bombastic EDM of the chorus - both just didn’t mesh well

 

Marionette was a great album opener tho WHEW

Jungwoo? Even if Taeil is going to enlist soon, there’s still Haechan who fits Doyoung’s & Jaehyun’s vocal more than Jungwoo. But yeah Haechan might need some rest tho.

any news about weeekly? after school is still in rotation to my playlist and I know their last comeback is very divisive but ven para is kinda the soty if we think about it too bad they released it too early if they released it later or give it to other groups who can do girl crush better the song would be much better
