Jisoo song is the Walmart version of SOLO, people criticise it because it is BLAND and LOW EFFORT.

 

People expected better from a senior that has been 6 years in the industry and has been hyped to the sky and back.

 

ZERO is an ad, for Christ sake! The fact that you are comparing an official debut with an ad and saying it has the same quality (which they don't), its already a drag for Stiffsoo

Thank you! This is what I have been trying to say all day! They claim that Blinks are forcing themselves to like their songs, while stanning this questionable non-serious ad song  They even claim that it's better than Flower  Imagine the draggings in here if BP or aespa released a CF song like this  Like BP got more dragged in here for releasing "Ready For Love" for PUBG which is an actual good song that makes sense  These HYBE HYENAS are truly ruthless and have no shame

He was not comparing the two songs, but your attitude towards the two acts.

K-pop has always been about adapting to western trends though.  

 

K-pop first gained international relevance during the 2nd gen when the biggest western artists in the world were making electropop/EDM (Gaga, Kesha, BEP, Rihanna, Katy) but that doesn't make EDM a part of the identity of k-pop anymore than it's a part of the identity of western pop. Like early BoA and Lee Hyori songs are a reflection of teen pop and R&B (Britney/Xtina/etc). Yes K-pop is a maximalist polished version of western pop, but acting like it's always been a totally mutually exclusive thing isn't accurate.

I always thought that most 2nd gen boy groups where big domestically as well, until someone mentioned yesterday that SHINee weren't really known by the GP?

Gen 2 was more Asia-focused so, even if its sound was (obviously) influenced by worldwide trends, they reinterpreted those trends in a quite complex and rich way since they had to craft music for listeners who were used to vibrant productions (this is particularly true if you think about K-Pop idols making music for the Japanese market back then -but this is another topic-).

 

My issue with many aspects of nowadays' K-Pop is that productions are (often) not reintepreting trends anymore, they're straight up following them.

And, as someone who's been listening to Asian music for almost 20 years now, I find it reductive.
