who are these people... how did bigger artists like Zach Bryan, Joji, Dove Cameron, Lauren Spencer-Smith, Gayle, Tate McRae etc miss this list?

i know grammys aren't supposed to be about popularity but it just doesn't make sense that artists that no one has heard of made the list over artists who had a successful year

I don’t understand how Maneskin got nominated. They already submitted last year and failed to get a nomination. That doesn’t mean you get to keep trying until you get a nomination :deadbanana2:

I know they say that artists who aren’t technically new can submit in the year their of their mainstream breakthrough, but Maneskin had their breakthrough last year before the deadline. They were even already prominent enough last year to be invited to announce last years Grammy nominations

I personally do not **** with her or her music, but it's really weird that Gayle missed when she's literally in SOTY :deadbanana4:

Wet Leg better take it, but genuinely never heard of 6/10 of those listed

Who exactly are you referring to?

Latto had a gigantic hit this year which surpassed “Irreplacable’s” radio dominance. She broke a record.

Muni Long easily had the biggest R&B hit this year with “Hrs & Hrs”, and she has been in the industry for a long time writing for pop artists.

Anitta is a worldwide success.

Maneskin had “Beggin”, which was a big worldwide hit.

the rest

I love Wet Leg and I think they have one of the best albums of this year. But this is giving blatant industry plant and payola, even for an overnight indie sensation :rip: I don't understand how an indie band from the middle of nowhere in the UK managed to snatch a BNA and Alternative AOTY noms when they are still kinda niche in the indie scene, with no established fan base whatsoever.

right? it doesn’t make sense :rip:

so do y'all want Grammys to be a popularity contest or not? you guys just change your narrative every single year. :rip:

My question as always is how are some of these people classified as "new" :deadbanana:

I actually think it makes perfectly sense. abcdefu was big, but there's little to no buzz around the artist, it's a Tones and I/Dance Monkey situation.

these are literally just unknown individuals who had zero impact… its so weird what dirt do these people have on the industry. its like you can buy a nomination or something.

but then again, literally no artist had any impact this year

there was certainly more buzz than wet leg or molly turtle :rip:

no but nominating absolute nobodies who didnt even release anything considerable isnt the solution either. and they need to narrow this award down to 5 entries again.

BNA nominees have always consisted of artists who had a successful year whether in the mainstream or indie scene (see: 2021 nominees Olivia and Japanese Breakfast) and sometimes they nominate 1 random artist (usually a BRC pick)

but this year half of them are just unknown which makes it sus

+ there are acclaimed AND popular artists who were snubbed this year, so it's not like they have bad music

I'm honestly surprised that some people in this forum don't know Omar Apollo. Ivory is an amazing album.

Wet Leg: #1 album in UK and Australia, #14 in US. #3 also in Independent, Alternative and Rock albums in the US. Critically acclaimed album with 3 other Grammy noms. Chaise Longue had some decent airplay in alternative/adult US radios. They have also had a great run of festivals in 2021 and 2022. They deserve more a BNA nom than some random artist with a ONE song that Tik Tok made famous for barely 2 months.  :cm:

because ATRL thinks that if they haven't heard of the artist that means nobody has. a quick check of these artists Spotify stats will show you that clearly lots of people have heard of them.

wet leg literally had one of the most acclaimed albums of the year which went to #1 in the UK, Ireland, and Australia, top ten all over Europe, and top 20 in the US.

the music industry is bigger than just artists that ATRL cares about :rip:

The Grammys were already a joke before the music industry completely collapsed so the combination of both is embarrassing

WHERE IS KIM PETRAS? i will be boycotting the grammys for this this year and for many years to come.

also, i'm not a fan of hers but i am genuinely surprised Tate McRae didn't get a BNA nom

I'll be rooting for Wet Leg, Muni Long, or Anitta

Grammy nominations are always suspicious. It is always very weird how they went with artists that are not new at all and have already submitted several times.

Anyway, let me wish GOOD LUCK to the artist that's going to win this category cause he's going to need it :gaycat6:
