The issue is that she had to implicate another woman in making her point. And as we learned later, she already was beefing with Latto. Then went on to race-bait against Latto for being mixed etc etc.

I mean, you have to admit, “Big Energy” was the perfect comparison though to make her point.

Nicki's topline point IS correct. But she is insufferable with her delivery and broader antics. She literally has been angling for beef with the other girls. It's as if she's angry at them for the shortcomings she's receiving. It's misplaced.

Yeah, it is an apt comparison and I actually was agreeing with Nicki up until the mess. 

Still, it kind of reminds me of Bieber getting moved to Pop for Changes/Yummy. Was the music R&B? Arguably, yes. But the listeners were straight up POP. Same with SFG. 
 

I actually wonder if she should’ve submitted to Melodic Rap. First Class seems to have been accepted there.

This. People falling for Nicki's tricks. Totally ignoring her follow up to the original statement. She said that other rap girls are getting pushed over her and they don't deserve. Meanwhile Latto didn't submit her song to the rap category. And she tried to bully her into taking her side and put an entire DM on blast shading other rap girls.

She hardly “implicated” her, until Latto totally misconstrued the point. She listed both Hot Line Bling ad BE as fitting examples & congratulated the girl.

 

I wouldn’t call what they had going on before a “beef”, it could’ve easily been resolved. The girl was still mentioning Nicki’s name in every interview & red carpet, but pulled a “don’t mention me” when Nicki mentioned hers? It’s wack. 

 

Nicki has already said she’d like a more “street” song to win the category, so the slim chance of winning point is mute. This is about fairness. Even Latto said “I agree but won’t say it publicly”.  

 

I don’t agree with how the events transpired between them, but if anyone thinks that Latto is more deserving of a Grammy than artists like:

Like her or not, Nicki is an example of an actually decent type of industry deal, and not one that keeps the girls subservient, broke & making pennies for the benefit of rich white men. It is in their interest when someone who operates from that type of model, is treated with fair consideration.

I don’t think Big Energy deserves a Grammy or even a nomination. Neither does Super Freaky Girl though. On a wider point, abusive men like Dr Luke should be blacklisted from the ceremony. 
 

We all read the paranoia fuelled DMs from Nicki to Latto. It’s clear that she’s been taking shots at Latto with sneak disses for a while. That’s why Latto said she understood Nicki’s point but doesn’t want to be included in the narrative because of their beef. Then Nicki posted cropped DMs “exposing” Latto. I respect Latto for actually finding the @ button since Nicki never can (remember she deleted ALL her tweets to Latto after Latto ate her up - she’s weak af). 
 

You’re serving the same paranoid energy here when theorising that Nicki was moved out of the Rap category because of her label deal (if that’s what you’re saying? It’s very difficult to follow your logic because it makes no sense. A conspiracy made on Barb Twitter I guess). Nicki’s music is panned. It’s not an industry conspiracy, it’s just an inability to create a good body of work. Her only acclaimed moments are features from her early days.

SFG is a terrible song. It has little to no chance at winning in Rap or Pop. Outside of that, I think Nicki made a fair point about genre gatekeeping that people can respect and I’ve said that.

My response sort of went beyond yours, just didn’t want to double post. Didn’t mean to imply you said something you didn’t, apologies. 

 

I agree re: Luke. Fortunately, Nicki has been one of the very few major artists through this ordeal, to actually point his accusations out directly. And I maintain that SFG was produced by Malibu, with Luke being an auto credit. 

 

Aside from that, I trust that you know very well that the Grammy’s aren’t necessarily rewarding “artistry”. or cohesive bodies of work.  It’s cultural impact, sales, the “it” thing, mixed with an element of who the industry is invested in pushing at the time, for a plethora of reasons. This category is “song”, not “album”, and whether you like the subject matter or not, SFG is a smartly crafted tune, & does showcase apt rapping ability + has the success, streaming & sales to back it up. It’s not like BE is a lyrical masterpiece, either. 

 

I wouldn’t call either of them “victims”, quite a dramatic term. They’re both successful adult women in music, arguing on twitter over a song nomination. They’ll log off after fuming & go back to their celebrity lives and the world will not end for them.
