Inspired by this YouTube series I came across. It's called Trainwreckords by Todd In The Shadows. Although I don't agree Witness was a career ending album, it definitely held a longlasting negative impact on Katy's career. Are there any other instances of albums that did more damage than good on an artists career or overall image of an artist? You can write them down here.

We haven't really heard of her after Bionic and she has not been able to chart for like 12-13 years now

 

The saddest thing was the fans she did have all left when the charts did, with little talent to pick it back up. Rihanna gained a lot of fans in 2018  Katy and Xtina has so much in common with bionic/witness

This is probably the first OG flop era for a pop girl. It's the risk of a radical change in image and sound. Radical change can really either be highly successful or a massive failure. there is really no in between. The thing with Bionic was that Christina felt hounded by competition to venture into EDM, didnt want to be left behind. If only she made that shift more organic it could've been a little more succesful. Her career would have really looked extremely different if it wasnt for this LP

Hard Candy? I know not comparable to Witness or Bionic same but ever since she dropped that her reputation acclaim and success went down tremendously. 

I like it, but Solar Power ruined Lorde's acclaim streak among fans and critics alike.  She needs to return to form on her next album.

Hmmm. But 4 minutes was one of her biggest smash hits ever? And Give it 2 Me was a moderate european hit.

 

MDNA was the album that made her look like a joke and nobody considered her seriously ever since 2012.

Kinda agree here. This felt like the first of many missteps for Madonna, even if 4 Minutes was a hit.

i low key feel like it started since American Life. Those critiques on modern culture and America was really something that made the public ignore her more. A shift from her usual pop and dance music. Madonna was the epitome of the cultural zeitgeist for 20 years from 1983 - 2003 but ever since American Life, something kinda shifted in how the public perceived her. Yes of course Hung Up was a massive hit and she did the Superbowl and kept making records etc but her reign at the top and being the most centered female artist cut short since American Life. Even tho its one of her best albums.
