Are Doja's hits payola'd?

Featured Replies

Doja Cat - "Woman" - Hot 100: #7
Digital Song Sales: did not chart
Radio Songs: #4
Streaming Songs: #31

Doja Cat - "Get Into It (Yuh)" - Hot 100: #20
Digital Song Sales: did not chart
Radio Songs: #6
Streaming Songs: #36

they're being heavily carried by radio, not even charting in the top 30 on the streaming chart :deadbanana4: OUT on the digital sales chart (you only have to sell like 50 to chart) :deadbanana4:

her singles are constantly carried by radio :-$mind you if this was a certain other female rapper she would never hear the end of payola accusations :monkey:

i dont think so, i dont see dojas audience as one that would actually buy songs, they seem much more the type to stream/use it on tiktok/ request it on radio only

even latto (who always gets accused of payola on atrl) has a more organic hit than doja :deadbanana4:

Latto - "Big Energy" - Hot 100: #3
Digital Song Sales: #1
Radio Songs: #1
Streaming Songs: #6

This. She's a Gen Z queen. But i'm surprised about the streaming peaks, she's got strong numbers on Spotify. Her hits have also great longevity so maybe that's why.

This.  Not everything is about peaks.  For some reason this just doesn’t click for ATRLers.  idk why lol.

Also, this was was her 4th and 5th single of her album.  So there’s that too.

Seems like they're being heavily carried by radio and don't have much sales, funny how ATRL would rather ignore that and attack other female popstars instead :celestial5:

Those songs definitely feel like top 5 due to their impact so I guess their positions are fitting

Yes. It's very evident with receipts. Her label is really pushing her to have this hitmaker image when all her supposed hits are all radio forced

Or Doja's hits peak at different times at different metrics. Do you really wanna talk about radio-fueled hits? Zero self-awareness whatsoever pffft

no, they have already been and continue to be massive on streaming. they are post-album and radio is rightly playing catch up. the global total for Woman on spotify is quickly approaching 1BN.

it’s not going to have a big peak when they have continuously been racking up a lot of streams since day 1

the numbers in the op are their peaks.. they peaked outside the top 30 on streaming, that's not a good thing :toofunny3:

it'd be one thing if they peaked in the top 10 on streaming then fell down by the time radio caught up but that's not the case here

I don't think so, the problem with Planet Her is that the songs peaked at the same time. :deadbanana2:

She released You Right as a single but the people chose Need to Know, when she treated NTK as a single, Woman and GII (Yuh) went viral. :deadbanana2: thats why she has amazing streaming stats. :clap3:

Are y’all serious? Her album is doing extremely well on streaming (still). her singles also peak at weird times in popularity, typically while her team is pushing a completely different song. Don’t be obtuse now

It's 2022. Sales don't matter at all. Her fanbase is busy streaming her music. Woman is about to cross a billion streams on Spotify alone. It was a fourth single so of course it won't have a massive streaming peak. Same with Get Into It (Yuh).

Aint **** peaked at #6. Ya still don't get it, don't ya, pumpkin?

Except for the fact that Woman peaked within the top 10 on US spotify multiple times and has 900M streams. It was clearly a hit

No. I'm friends with a few radio execs and even partied with them. They have told me her slayage is completely natural and her team barely spends any money on radio promo. It's insanely impressive actually

Of course not, the f*ck, if anything the amount of demand and request force radio programmers to play and put her on rotation all the time. The fact NTK, which is a classic in the making, is testing like one of the favorite songs by the audience still to this day (surpassing current hits), yet it was overplayed for like almost a year, is just insane.

Yes, they constantly accuse Dua Lipa and many other girls of payola when majority of the songs off Planet Her have been HEAVILY carried by radio. The other girls are constantly scrutinized on here for being radio darlings and payola queens.
