Which album from the summertime sadness songstress evokes the most sorrow?

Ultraviolence, I do believe.

Definitely COCC, it's depressing how bad it is.

I'd say Honeymoon, as the lyrics are about her finding out she can't cope with her fame and it's very introspective.

Literally she sang those words crying her heart out.

 

Born To Die has her saddest lyrics so I would go with that one. I don't think Ultraviolence is that sad, for me it sounds more sensual/angry than anything.

I think Honeymoon is actually her saddest/darkest album. It’s very beautiful on the surface but there’s a very dark/sinister undercurrent when you listen closely.

The Blackest Day and Swan Song are easily in her top 5 saddest songs. I still get chills every time she sings "And I will never sing again..."

no, we're voting for it because it has Old Money

Honeymoon had some very somber moments but I always felt like in that album she finally decided to escape and change her life for the better. UV felt like she was still in that dark space and between the album and the whole "I wish I was already dead." controversy, that whole era was intense. She also looked back on the song Black Beauty years later and it still makes her cry.

Definitely LFL, hands down. It makes me very sad to this day that she released this work

Jk hmm I mean Born to Die is very said in its own way bc of the biographical elements, esp in TIWMUG and Video Games. UV to me isn’t sad at all, idk where y’all are coming from w that, aside from TOW which is literally a cover. HM isn’t really sad either, aside from TLY. LFL isn’t sad. To me her saddest song ever is HIADT, so I would prob choose NFR! if I had to. Chemtrails I don’t really find sad either. If anything, BB made me tear up the most on first listen

Call BB bad all you want, but Arcadia gives me chills every time I listen to it 

I'd say NFR! since the whole concept of the album goes around her wanting to love and help her man but she can't get that love back because of how depressed and full of frustrations her lover is. Honeymoon has some moments and great sad songs, but the whole concept of the album doesn't go around that.

this is like asking if a lime or a lemon is more of a citrus fruit.. anyways I chose BB with all the mommy issues etc

I'm leaning towards Ultraviolence, even if it isn't always upfront about the sadness it just has such a dark aura.  The title track especially.

 

Not to mention, she just seemed like she wasn't in a great place during that era.
