The music was not strong enough. I really liked Easy On Me, but the album had nothing else to offer. 

It was the #1 global album of 2021 despite only being released for 6 weeks with a global #1 smash

 

It's not on the same level as 21 or 25 (no one was touching that level of success) but imagine this being your flop era - only Adele

Not promoting the album, the album is not a flop, sure it's not big as her previous 2 eras. Some current top-streamed artists are no match for her previous sales and talent.

Sour doesn't have more units only but also moving more units daily. It is MUCH bigger than 30.

Only pure sales at most which is something no one uses as the only metric of success anymore.

Adele doubled the #2 in pure sales, but she was also #1 in overall units according to IFPI (Sour #2).

All I can say is that the music climate has changed

 

It is all about trendy verse or unique chorus which have chance to go viral on TikTok

Also the radio is 10x slower than any past years. They either throw your single 1 month after being sent, or overplay your summer single even in winter

 

She actually can have moderate hits like Rumor Has It and Water Under The Bridge if she keeps going with the era

I dont know if there is higher expectation, but Easy On Me's success is more than enough

i think the only thing that kept 30 from being bigger was the lack of promotion from adele herself

maybe if she performed it on a couple tv shows, released more mvs

The only thing that "went wrong" was the vegas thing or whatever happened there..

If outperforming every other pop girl is Adele's "downfall", then I'm sure they'd all love to suffer such a tragedy.

Biggest 2021 album =/= biggest album in 2021 

 

30 sold more in 2021 but Sour is the bigger 2021 album since it has more overall units.

Sour has 7.5M SEA units and 8.5-9M total units. 

30 has 2.5M SEA units so even if you add all of 30's shipments(4.6M), it wouldn't catch Sour's SEA units alone, let alone it's total units.
