We shouldn't, it's not an official source. It's good for pure numbers but otherwise everything else like conversions should be taken with a gain of salt.

Billboard doesn‘t has the WW sales data.  Actually nobody has it. But people here still need that data to fight with each other. Sure chartmaster is inaccurate but at least it gives us a reference

MJDangerous probably knows more about charts and sales, and has done more research on such over the course of many years (he has UKmix posts dating back almost 20) than everyone on this site combined.

Because even if it is not perfect, it is the most  accurate global source that we have, and other sources like HDD who get info from labels are given similar numbers. They have their weakness but they are trying to fix it. But some people who are always claimed how big and global are their favs based on nothing doesn’t like to see the reality

OT: I don’t get it either. I don’t believe in Chartmasters. 

CM uses the same sources you all use to base their formulas on though  Even if the numbers are not entirely accurate they are still better than any other source we have accessible right now for equivalent units. It's a pretty cute source that gathers all of the artists' information about sales/units in one site so I don't know what's the big fuss about.

 

I mean Billboard told you 150 streams = sale and yall follow that blindly. Don't act like this is any different. 

 

Billboard don't even include sales, so they're useless, so we have to use something.

Because they have 90s magazine copies saved as receipts.

Well, that's the only source that we got for WW numbers. But who are they lmaoo. At least BB is working with Soundcscan and consists of industry expert before they came up with a formula. 

Outside of the IFPI's annual report, there's no regularly shared official WW data out there, and Chartmasters has been sort of proven to be pretty accurate the numerous times the odd confirmed WW figure (either from the label, HDD, or some other reliable source) has come out and been surprisingly close to Chartmasters' figure.

 

Does this mean their numbers are 100% right 100% of the time? No, but it does mean their numbers are arguably the best and most accurate from any unofficial source, which is why they're rightfully the go-to "source" for WW numbers that aren't officially confirmed.

 

On top of all that, their varying Spotify tools have been a game changer in the stan world and I question where stan wars/stan culture would be without them to be honest.
