Solar Power is actually an overwhelming album just like Honeymoon but some girls aren't ready for this conversation :alexz:

My December is not a misstep. Her label sabotaged her. :biblio:

Child; I’m one of the biggest KC stans; the album is phenomenal, but it had no hits.

A decline in commercial success doesn't necessarily mean a misstep though, in the longevity of a career a critically well received album can be more beneficial than an album of quick hits.

Never Again was already a moderate hit before it was pulled. I mean, My December won’t have big radio hits but her songs and videos would probably still be played on heavy rotation on MTV. Haunted, One Minute, How I Feel with a MV could work. Hell, even Be Still or Maybe could work with an acoustic live performance video.

Like, Under My Skin has no real big hits except for MHE but growing up I thought that album was full of smash after smash because of MTV :cm:

Then why did you ask me if I agreed if it's such an irrefutable fact? Lol

of course! too bad she couldn't score any more top 10 hits in every single of her following studio albums and couldn't get to star in a few movies, tour stadiums etc.

GP really threw her to the trashcan after 2nd album :monkey:

The way they consider TFM the 2nd album when it only fits their narrative :bibliahh:

real life BTW 6x  TEOG 4x Y&I 3x Judas 2x MTN 1x only in the USA.

are u 15 or what?

And yet, none of these singles minus BTW are remembered hits :celestial2:

PRISM had two gigantic hits so it’s not a misstep at all but the rollout was disastrous  after roar.

releasing dark horse while trying to push unconditionally, the birthday video, then making this is how we do a single ruined the potential that album had.

Britney (2001) album has several like underwhelming singles (outside of slave/Boys remix). There's also a bit of an identity crisis because those two songs are wildly out of place with the rest of the album. I just don't think her label fully understood what they were doing with her at that point.

Speak Now was a commercial decline from Fearless, but the quality overall was much higher. Plus, it sold a million copies week 1, is 6x platinum with SPS, and spent six weeks at the top of the BB200 abd yielded her first tour to gross over 100 million. The album was local (much more so than Fearless) and there was no LS or YBWM in terms of smash singles.

I can name several MPGs who don't even have a 4x Platinum album in the US, let alone 6x. And now I believe it's eligible for 7x. This absolutely does not work as an example; Speak Now was a massive commercial success as it was released at a time when sales were declining by double digit percentages total every year but two years after Fearless, she managed to nearly double her prior first week sales on her 3rd album and debut with over a million sales. If we're talking quality, everyone pretty much agrees it's one of her best.

I would name Lana's Honeymoon. It bombed commercially, but was her most critically acclaimed album at the time. It's still her best album to date.

they ruined Britney’s vision by merging that album with the soundtrack of her movie. In hindsight it was the perfect mix of her new sound and the departure of her old one

The way they're basically arguing with themselves out of nowhere with fantasy monsters :skull:

OT: sadly Solar Power.

from my faves:

Born This Way wasn't a misstep, a 13M WW seller with an openly LGBTQ+ anthem and many societal songs

Britney wasn't a misstep and served one of her best albums

Speak Now was no misstep either, iconic and a self written masterpiece

When The Sun Goes Down had full of bops

The Best Damn Thing was badly exploited but still did what it had to do
